Sync or swim! Lip Sync Battle renewed for second 20-episode season as Terry Crews prepares to face-off against Mike Tyson

Lip Sync Battle has been renewed for a second season.

Spike TV announced on Wednesday that it had ordered another 20 episodes of the hugely popular celebrity game show.

Just four episodes have aired so far, but it is already the most watched original series in the network's history.

The simple premise for the LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen-hosted show pits two celebrities against each other who must perform two lip synced songs each before the audience decides on a winner.

So far Dwayne The Rock Johnson has laid the smackdown on Jimmy Fallon, Oscar winning song collaborators Common and John Legend went head to head, Anne Hathaway wrecked Emily Blunt and Anna Kendrick had the better pretend pitch against The Office's John Krasinski.

Despite its very tender age the series has had a number of standout moments already, although nobody has quite managed to top Anne Hathaway's shot for shot replica of Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball, complete with in-studio wrecking ball.

The show was born of a bit originally thought up by Jimmy Fallon during his tenure as Late Night host, which was given a new lease of life when he took over at The Tonight Show.

Fallon himself starred in the very first episode of the standalone series, his Jump In The Line (Shake Senora) by Harry Belafonte and Like A Prayer by Madonna no match for the Rock's faked renditions of The Bee Gee's Stayin Alive and Taylor Swift's Shake It Off.

That episode on April 8 was Spike TV's most watched premiere ever with 3million viewers, and the series has averaged that same number per episode so far.

'Lip Sync Battle is a television and viral rock star for Spike,' said Spike president Kevin Kay. 'We are thrilled to be renewing Lip Sync Battle whose success is a direct result of the brilliance and creativity of our producers, the brave performers, and of course the coolest new duo on television, LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen.'

Up next in series one is episode five, which will see Terry Crews pitch his Run DMC's Sucker MCs against Mike Tyson's rendition of Salt N Pepa's Push it.

After that it's a battle of the US morning TV powerhouses as Live With Kelly And Michael's Michael Strahan takes on the Today Show's Hoda Kotb; while Empire's estranged hubby and wife Terrence 'Lucious' Howard and Taraji 'Cookie' P Henson are also slated to face off.

Season two of Lip Sync Battle will air in 2016.
