Love her or hate her Kim Kardashian certainly knows how to pull a crowd.

The 34-year-old star was no doubt very glad to have her burly bodyguard with her as she stepped out in New York on Wednesday.

The reality star went from making a stylish exit to need an escape plan as a waiting crowd surged forward as she attempted to go the short disturbance from her Soho apartment to a waiting car.

At first it appeared to be controlled pandemonium but as soon as Kim paused briefly for a fan to snap a picture, everyone wanted to get closer to her.

Dozens of fans and photographers all surged forward trying to snap their own shot with the star but her bodyguard Pascal Duvier quickly jumped in to protect his client.

The towering German, who is almost as wide as he is tall, quickly created a man wall to keep the crowd away from the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star.

However, while Kim may have been safe behind her moving human shield, many in the crowd found themselves getting pushed forward with one fan screaming out before almost falling as Kim's protector pushed him back.

Once safely in the car, Kim did not have long before she had to face yet another crush.

Ensuring the outfit still looked sleek, the mother of one - North, 22 months - went without any major accessories sans for a pair of on trend tan heeled sandals which tied around the ankle and featured a tassel.

Keeping with that theme, Kim wore her hair slicked back and straightened.

Despite the craziness going on around her, the reality star did not break her focus and walked towards the hotel as it she was strutting down a catwalk.

Kim also looked surprisingly fresh and awake considering she and husband Kanye West had a big night on Tuesday as they were honoured by Time Magazine as two of their 100 Most Influential People.

The couple partied along other movers and shakers including Laverne Cox, Naomi Campbell and Karli Kloss at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Kanye was one of five people singled out to be on the cover of the magazine with Bradley Cooper, Misty Copeland, Jorge Ramos and Ruth Bader Ginsburg also featuring.
