Everything is Amazing! Sony Pictures to make an animated Spider-Man feature with LEGO Movie directing team
After the runaway success of the LEGO Movie, Sony Pictures have announced plans to make an animated Spider-Man feature.
Sony Pictures Entertainment's new chairman, Tom Rothman made the announcement, Wednesday night, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
Christopher Miller and Phil Lord - the writing and directing team behind the Oscar-nominated animation - will helm the Spidey film which will be released on July 20, 2018.
Web-slinger: Sony Pictures have announced plans to make an animated Spider-Man feature
This means the animation will come well after Spider-Man's next live-action outing in a cameo spot in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, as well as the first instalment of the third reboot of the franchise the following year, on July 28, 2017.
The franchise will reportedly look to hire an up-and-coming young actor for the dual role of Peter Parker and Spidey as the stand-alone film will be set in high school
A shortlist, seen by The Wrap, allegedly has Paper Towns' Nat Wolff, 20, Hugo's Asa Butterfield, 18, The Impossible's Tom Holland, 18, Interstellar's Timothee Chalamet, 20, and The Way, Way Back's Liam James, 18 (The Way, Way Back) in the running to play the Marvel hero.

According to The Wrap: 'a decision is expected in the next 2-3 weeks.
'To be clear, none of the five actors above have test offers, but multiple individuals with knowledge of the situation have confirmed they are strong contenders who are definitely in the mix as of right now.'
Cabin in the Woods' Drew Goddard is reportedly the most likely to direct the solo film.
It's no wonder Sony Pictures are trying to get as much out of the web-slinger as possible, as the franchise is worth $4 billion, but fans will be disappointed to find out that 'leaked' Spidey post-credit scene was a fake.
Peter Parker? Nat Wolff - of Paper Towns - is reportedly a frontrunner for the role in the new live-action reboot
Contenders: British stars Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland are also reportedly in the runniny
Director: Cabin in the Woods' Drew Goddard - pictured on the 2012 set with writer/producer Joss Whedon - is reportedly the most likely to direct the solo Spider-Man film
Avengers: Age Of Ultron director Joss Whedon confirmed to a press conference that it was fake and does not appear at the end of his latest movie.
Yeah that's not real,' he told a group of journalists at London's Corinthia hotel.
'I don't know where that started. I don't know who came up with it. We wanted to be clear there was no tag scene at the very end of the film because after sitting through 40 minutes of credits and not seeing anything we thought people would be irate. No, I don't know where that started."
