This announcement follows a series of many this month, of stars joining the cast of the sequel to the popular 2001 comedy.

Most recently Ben shared a comical video on his Instagram account, in which - as his character Derek Zoolander - he thought he was speaking to Hansel - Owen Wilson's character from the film - about Billy Zane returning.

However, when the man with wavy blonde hair - who had been facing away, reading the newspaper - turned around, it was Billy, and he was quick to show off his best Blue Steel, Zoolander's signature pucker.

Already accustomed with the Italian fashion houses, Ben and Owen channeled their famous alter-egos as they announced the return of Zoolander during the Valentino AW14 show at Paris Fashion Week in March.

When the characters return to the modelling world, their business is threatened by an opposing company.

Ben will perform both male lead and directing duties on the film penned by Jennifer Aniston's actor fiancé Justin Theroux.

The fashion parody sequel, slated for release in 2016, started filming two weeks ago and comes 15 years after the first film.
