The wickets have been terrible and it's not fair, claims Broad

by PAUL NEWMAN

Stuart Broad criticised the turgid wickets that have destroyed this series as a spectacle after another frustrating day for England.

Only three wickets fell on the third day of the final Test as West Indies closed on 349 for four.

Broad, who managed to glean some rare bounce from the Queen's Park Oval track to dismiss nightwatchman Daren Powell, said: 'The wickets have been terrible throughout. It just hasn't been a fair battle between bat and ball.

Frustrated: Stuart Broad says the wickets are 'flat and 'need more balance'

'I remember growing up watching clashes like Atherton v Donald and there will be youngsters seeing this who are being denied proper contests like that one.

'It's probably our fault for being rolled over in Jamaica because they've produced flat wickets ever since.

'But hopefully people will realise soon that we need a much better balance.'

Broad also talked of 'chances that didn't go to hand and poor umpiring decisions that went against us'.

He added: 'We thought this pitch would deteriorate more because it has cracks up and down it, but it stayed true all day. I can't wait to get home - I haven't seamed a ball for four months!'
