They sent the rumour mill whirring when it was believed they would be attending the upcoming White House Correspondents dinner together.

And now numerous sources have told E! News that a brand new romance is blossoming between Ciara, 29, and Seattle Seahawks player Russell Wilson, 26.

'It's still at the beginning stages and it's very fresh,' an insider told the website on Thursday.

New romance: Ciara - in New York in March - and Russell Wilson - in New York in February - have a romance blossoming, according to E!

'She thinks he is a complete gentleman and has really enjoyed hanging out with him these past few weeks. It's constant laughter and fun with them,' the source added.

'Things are a bit busy for both of them now, but they are willing to make time and see where this may go,' the insider continued.

Sources for Us Weekly have also revealed the pair have been in each others company this past month.

During a wrap party for Ciara's upcoming TV show I Can Do That on April 10, an insider told the website that the pair were seen getting 'cozy in a booth together.'

The romance rumours have been heating up in recent days.

A photo has surfaced of Russell watching the Seattle Mariners baseball game on Sunday beside a woman, whom many have noted resembles Ciara.

The evidence? Some reports have compared a photo of Russell's friend to this photo Ciara shared on Sunday

While his friend's face remained mostly out of view, a few reports even pointed out Ciara's Instagram post that day, which revealed she wore an outfit similar to Russell's pal.

Shortly there after, AOL released a guest list for the upcoming White House Correspondents Dinner, which revealed Russell would be taking Ciara as his plus one, according to The Washington Post.

However, the athlete dispelled the speculation when he announced on Facebook his grandmother would be accompanying him.

Russell filed for divorce from his ex-wife Ashton Meem after two years of marriage in January 2014.

Ciara was last romantically linked to her ex-fiancé Future.

E! News reported in mid-December that Ciara and the rapper had ended their engagement for good.

It comes following rumours the rapper cheated on the Overdose hitmaker earlier this year.

A source told the website: 'They tried to work things out between them but it could not be saved. Ciara could not get over what had happened.'

The former couple are parents to 11-month-old son Future Zahir Wilburn.

Next up, Ciara will share the spotlight with Joe Jonas, Cheryl Burke, Nicole Scherzinger, Jeff Dye, and Alan Ritchson in the variety show I Can Do That, which recently filmed its season finale.

The show, which will premiere in the U.S. in May, will see the cast compete against each other as they try out a variety of new skills.
