Feeling charitable: Charlize Theron gives money to a man outside grocery store as she cuts a casual figure in baggy jumper

It might have been all glamour for actress Charlize Theron, as she walked the red carpet on Tuesday night at the premiere her latest movie, Mad Max: Fury Road.

But the 39-year-old kept it real earlier on in the day, when she gave some money to a man outside a convenience store, while wearing a low-key ensemble. 

Picking up a refreshing drink for herself, the pretty blonde looked worlds apart from her trademark glamorous appearance, yet still looked naturally beautiful.

Sean Penn's girlfriend wore an oversized green cable knit jumper over blue turn-up jeans and a grey pair of soft brogues. 

The outing came ahead of Charlize's admission that filming her latest movie, wasn't exactly an easy ride. 

She told HitFix: 'It was not an easy shoot, yeah, it was tough.

'And you know, I think that there...I look at the movie now and I have the utmost respect for the process that took place. But when we were in it, it was incredibly...it was tough.' 

The gorgeous actress looked incredible later that night when she attended the premiere, wearing a knee-length black dress with a plunging neckline. 

There hemline of the number was asymmetric and gave the style some edge.

She kept her accessories to a minimum, and flattered her enviable legs in black heels with an ankle-strap. 

The Oscar-winner's cheekbones were sculpted to perfection with a peachy blush, teamed with her blonde tresses being swept back in an elegant up-do. 

This is the first Mad Max film without Mel Gibson -  Charlize recently told W Magazine she didn't know who he was.

'I didn’t know who Mel Gibson was', she told them, 'I thought he was just some dude who had a really cool job.

'In South Africa, we didn’t have the whole celebrity thing—I had no idea that people knew actors’ names.'

Tom Hardy, who replaces Gibson in the forthcoming Mad Max instalment, and Nicholas Hoult who also stars in the movie flanked Charlize on the red carpet at CinemaCon.

The blonde star plays Imperator Furiosa - Mad Max's only hope of survival in a post-apocalyptic wasteland - int he George Miller post-apocalyptic action adventure. 

She boldly shaved her hair for the role, which she says was liberating for her morning routine. 

She told W Magazine: 'It was really fun to shower with my bald head. You have not showered until you’ve showered hairless. That’s all I have to say.'

Mom to three-year-old son Jackson, Charlize is dating 54-year-old actor Sean Penn. 

The two Oscar winners also have a movie collaboration set for release in 2015, The Last Face, directed by Sean and starring Charlize - and Max Max Fury Road will be hitting screens on May 15.
