Torres open to Atletico Madrid return as Chelsea forward reveals admiration for former team-mate Simeone

By Sami Mokbel

Fernando Torres has opened the door to a summer return to Atletico Madrid - which could help Chelsea’s pursuit of Diego Costa.

Torres has been in and out of Jose Mourinho’s plans this season, with the Portuguese manager alternating between the Spaniard and Samuel Eto’o.

Mourinho will look to reinvigorate his forward line in the summer, with Atletico striker Costa a leading candidate on the club’s shopping list.

And Torres has not ruled out a return to his former club, with Costa possibly heading in the opposite direction.

When asked about a return to his first club, Torres replied: ‘In football you never know. You can’t be sure where you’re going to be tomorrow or in a week or in 10 years.

‘I have a lot of admiration for the manager Diego Simeone from when we were team-mates (at Atletico).

‘He helped me a lot. He taught me many things in our seasons together at Atleti. I always want to work alongside people I admire.’

Costa will be a highly sought after player this summer after his excellent goal scoring record in Spain and in Europe this season.

Arsenal are also keen on the Spain international, Roman Abramovich’s financial clout leaves Chelsea in a strong position to land Costa this summer.

His time at CFC is up. No one recovers fully after knee injury no one and Torres is no exception. Brilliant player fall victim to knee injury. So sorry for him its horrible to watch him struggle, he must go to slow league like Spain or Italy.

I hate it when Liverpool fans pipe up and say Chelsea ruined Torres,You Liverpool fans need to remember back at his final season at Liverpool he got injured right at the start of the season and was out for a long while and when he did come back he never looked like the same player, yes Chelsea took a gamble on him getting back to form but he has never been the same since that injury.

A true plastic Chelsea fan from Pattaya ^ Torres has been appalling sorry. Never seen him kiss the badge once which tells you a lot about the pride or lack of it he has in wearing our shirt.

Plastic! For your information I am from Mile End and have been a Chelsea fan for over 50 years. I've seen The Blues play 100s of times home and away - that's loyalty. If kissing the badge is your yardstick for loyalty then it's you who is the Plastic old son.
