If Kate Mara was anxious about her appearance at the 2014 Met Gala, she certainly wasn't showing it on Monday.

The actress and her boyfriend Max Minghella were casual and relaxed as they went for a stroll around the Big Apple just hours before the star-studded event in New York City.

By nighttime, the 31-year-old actress simply sparkled in a green and gold sheer Valentino gown as she hit the red carpet at the fashion soiree, while English actor Max was dapper in a black suit and tie.

Kate's coiffed her blonde bob in subtle waves and she let her dress do all the talking by opting for no accessories.

The couple were in stylish company on the night, posing with Valentino's creative directors, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, and actresses Maggie Gyllenhaal and Haley Bennett.

Earlier in the day, the celebrity couple enjoyed a sunny stroll through the Big Apple.

Later in the day, Max met with fellow Brit and actor Eddie Redmayne and his girlfriend Hannah Bagshawe.

Enter your comment56 articles on the met ball? Most american sites don't even give it one, those that do cover it do so in a single article. Art your writers that bad that you can't find a single writer to do it in one go? some people have multiple articles-you need multiple reporters to cover one person at one party for a fewhours? Are you that out of touch with reality or are your writer that bad? Maybe you should hire more americans, they obviously have a better sense of propriety.
