Megan Fox leads the A-list back to the 80's with latest fashion obsession for ripped jeans

They say that you should never adopt a trend if you can remember it first time round - but the A-list obsession with Eighties-style ripped denim could prove that point wrong.

Megan Fox demonstrated the look to fantastic effect as she emerged from her hotel in Paris last night to promote her latest movie Transformers 2.

The actress wore pristine white skinny jeans shredded from the thigh to the knee, teamed with a nude tank top and black boots.

The thigh's the limit: Megan Fox wore white ripped jeans in Paris last night

Of course the 23-year-old former model has thighs worth exposing - as do fellow ripped jeans fans Lindsay Lohan, Cameron Diaz, Miley Cyrus and Lily Allen to name a few.

All have been seen in shredded denim over the past couple of weeks, dressed up with heels and down with flats, for both public appearances and shopping with the kids - these stars prove that the look is undeniably versatile.

Super-slender actress Lindsay Lohan wore hers for a reunion with on-off girlfriend Samantha Ronson in London last Wednesday, while teen star Miley Cyrus wore hers the following day for a guest appearance at a gig in LA.

Cameron Diaz also sported a mid-blue pair while passing through JFK airport in New York, the gold gladiator flats lending a boho edge, while Jessica Alba was the ultimate yummy mummy in a cream pair smartened with black peep-toe flats.

Lily Allen played it safer on Monday in black ripped jeans during a trip to Sydney. Worn with a slouchy tee and flats it was a casual take on the look compared to

über-fashionista Victoria Beckham, whose torn skinnies were teamed with skyscraper heels and fur-trimmed jacket.

Of course, the older one is, the more caution that should be applied when following catwalk trends. While Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus can get away with showing more leg than denim, a woman in her 30s or 40s could look like mutton dressed as lamb in the same style.

Nor should someone with less than lithe pins attempt super-tight styles like Victoria Beckham or Megan Fox.

But ripped denim does not always have to mean scruffy, as Liv Tyler proved on a trip to Stella McCartney's LA boutique last week.

Playing it safe: Black ripped skinnies are the easiest way to wear the trend, casually, like Lily Allen, or dressed up in the style of Victoria Beckham

Approaching with caution: Liv Tyler teams her torn stonewash jeans with a classic trench. Jessica Biel dips a toe into the trend with rips at the knee

The Lord Of The Rings star's pale stonewash denim was ripped at the knee, but partnered with a belted trench they looked smart and classic.

Jessica Biel also went for a subtle take on the trend - on a visit to New York's Theory store last week she wore grey skinny jeans just ripped at the knee.

The 27-year-old opted for old-school Nike trainers and leather jacket, lending a youthful look, but the same jeans with heels and a smart top would make the trend accessible for someone 10, or even 20 years older.
