Youthful Glynis Barber, 59, is slender in a bold blue dress... as she imparts some anti-ageing wisdom and slimming secrets on This Morning

She thanks water for the appearance that she hasn't aged a day since Dempsey And Makepeace - though not in the way that you would think.

Glynis Barber imparted some of her ageing wisdom on Friday's This Morning when she told presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that sipping water will dehydrate you and make you gain fat.

The youthful 59-year-old, whose health & wellbeing book The In-Sync Diet launched the same day, was certainly the perfect example of an ideal lifestyle as she wowed in a bold blue dress.

The actress looked stunning in cobalt blue, wearing a dress that cut elegantly at her knee with black peep toe heels.

She carried a black leather jacket and styled her hair in an stylish medium crop with coiffed flicks at the tips.

Glynis was joined by nutritionist Fleur Borelli, the lady who she praises for 'changing her life' and co-wrote her new age-busting book.

The actress had some game-changing secrets when asked how she's maintained a look that's barely over 40 and they all began with water.

'Water is very, very important - but it's the way you drink it,' Glynis explained. 

'If you just sip - which I used to do before I met Fleur - it actually dehydrates you and makes you gain fat. Who would have thought that the way you drink water can make you fat?' 

Glynis urged viewers to challenge the eating information they're given, with Fleur adding that there's research to prove that sipping leads to dehydrated cells that then store fat.

The actress and her nutritionist have written their unique tips into the new book in an effort to help readers strike up just as good a healthy appearance and lifestyle. 

She also roused a particularly strong Twitter response from users when she said she doesn't usually eat until lunchtime.

'For me,' she said of her daily routine. 'I get up and exercise in a fasted state and after that I'll have a meal. My first meal will probably be lunchtime. So there's a little bit of intermittent fasting going on.

'I never thought I could do that because I was very attached and fond of breakfast - but I literally adjusted in about a week and I'm not hungry in the morning anymore…. I have less fat and more muscle now.'

After the show, Glynis addressed skepticism about the advice on Twitter, saying: 'To those who think we're talking rubbish, every point we make is meticulously referenced in the book 2 scientific research! @ITVThisMorning'

She added: 'Thanks @ITVThisMorning for having us on to talk about the The In-Sync Diet. It takes awhile to get used to new ideas and debunked myths!'
