'Shut it and start singing': Simon Cowell confronts X Factor USA contestant with a bad attitude as new promo is released


He's come across all sorts of people auditioning to be the next big thing during his time on the X Factor panel.

And there is always going to be one or two that has ideas above their station, no matter on what side of the Pond they hail from.

Something which Simon Cowell discovered during the audition stages of X Factor USA, as a new promo of the show has revealed.

During the eight-minute preview, Cowell is seen getting frustrated with a contestant who he said had 'attitude'.

When Cowell asks him what his name is, the young man, who is wearing a bright pink baseball cap, tells him: 'Zander Alexander.'

Cowell says, 'Alexander', to which the contestant replies, 'no Zander', and when the music mogul asks him his real name he says, 'Alexander Johnson.'

Cowell calls him Alexander and starts to ask him a question, but the auditionee interrupts him and says: 'Don't call me Alexander please, I hate that name.'

A frustrated and annoyed Cowell then turns to him and calmly says: 'Ok, have you ever performed in public before?'

Alexander snaps back, 'Have you ever worn a shirt that isn't grey?' until Cowell, clearly at the end of his tether says: 'Why have you got this attitude with me Alexander?'

When the contestant tells him they can take it outside, Cowell says: 'Shut it and start singing.'

Alexander is just one of many things that leaves Cowell angry and frustrated throughout the promo, and at one point he is seen surrounded by his production team saying: 'I am telling you now, I am hating this. Total utter ********. It's got to go - it's just not working.'

This from a man that at the beginning of the promo says: 'I've got no idea what's going to happen and I think you've got to enjoy the ride.'

And it's not all smooth sailing for Cowell's fellow judges Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and L.A. Reid as they find themselves up against some weird and colourful characters too.

Confronted by a man on stage with his jeans around his ankles, Scherzinger tells him: 'I personally feel just a little violated.'

After one tuneless audition, Abdul confides backstage that she 'just witnessed a nightmare' and L.A Reid is seen telling a contestant: 'That was offensive. Get him out of the boardroom.'

But there are some shining stars too, one in the shape of confident and chatty 13-year-old Rachel Crowe, who delights the crowd and the judges from the minute she walks on stage.

Her rendtition of Duffy's Mercy gets her a standing ovation and Reid telling her, 'You have everything that every artist I've ever signed has. Feisty, sassy, soulful, you got it all baby.'

Then there's single mum of two Stacey, who looks much younger than her 42 years, and leaves Cowell with his mouth open as she launches into a version of Aretha Franklin's (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.

He tells her: 'I've done this for a long long time. That was one of the best auditions I have ever heard in my life. Loved it, loved it, loved it. I love you.'

The promo then shows a montage of other acts that fans and viewers can look forward to seeing over the next couple of months, so good, some bad, some downright awful.

The X Factor USA starts across two nights on Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday, September 22 on Fox.

The winner will receive a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music and the chance to appear in a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial.
