Scruffy Daniel Radcliffe looks laid-back as he enjoys a casual stroll in New York with girlfriend Erin Drake

Daniel Radcliffe recently signed on to play Sam Houser, creator of controversial videogame Grand Theft Auto.

So on Wednesday it looked like the 25-year-old was savoring his quality time with girlfriend Erin Darke before filming began on the BBC TV movie.

The two looked casual in jeans as they were spotted enjoying a walk together in the West Village in New York City.

Daniel looked comfortable in a fitted, black V-neck T-shirt underneath a bright red Detroit Red Wings zip-up hoodie.

The Harry Potter star coupled those with a pair of loose-fitting, light wash jeans and all-black leather sneakers.

He finished off his look with a navy blue baseball cap, and was spotted carrying a beige Late Night with Seth Meyers tote bag.

The British actor was joined by his girlfriend Erin, who he met in 2012, while filming indie drama Kill Your Darlings.

She wore a form-fitting, black V-neck T-shirt, which she coupled with a pair of skintight black skinny jeans that showed off her slim figure.

The We Need To Talk About Kevin actress bundled up in a trendy black peacoat, and was spotted carrying a black backpack.

She finished off her look with a pair of brown ankle booties, and wore her long, brunette locks pulled back into a ponytail.

Erin was seen smoking on the couple's afternoon stroll, and hid her eyes behind a pair of black sunglasses.

Since rising to fame with Harry Potter, Daniel has starred in a number of indie films, such as Kill Your Darlings, Horns, and What If. 

He also starred alongside Mad Men's Jon Hamm in the Sky Arts Playhouse Presents miniseries, A Young Doctor's Notebook.

Recently he was cast as Sam Houser in the BBC drama Game Changer, which follows the British gaming geniuses who created Grand Theft Auto.

According to a post by Variety, the TV movie will track how the violent gameplay coupled with its commercial success leads to fierce opposition: from parents worried about children immersing themselves in such a violent world; from politicians, alarmed at the values they say it encourages; and above all from moral campaigners, who fight passionately to ban it.

Bill Paxton will also star in the TV film, as campaigning lawyer Jack Thompson, who hopes to stop the relentless rise of Grand Theft Auto - whose 2013 update earned $1 billion in its first three days.

Misfits and Black Mirror director Owen Harris will direct the 90-minute BBC film with a script by James Wood.

Daniel will be seen this year as Igor in Victor Frankenstein, a retelling of the classic Mary Shelley Gothic novel from the troubled young assistant's perspective.

James McAvoy plays the young medical student Viktor Von Frankenstein in a cast featuring Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott and Mark Gattis.

The film will be released in the UK on September 25 and on October 2 in the US.
