'The feeling of joy I have is explosive': Scarlett Johansson opens up about motherhood... and why her second marriage ‘takes work’

She's got the looks, fame, and fortune, but Scarlett Johansson places being a mother and wife at the top of her success meter.

'The biggest joy that I have is looking at my daughter. When I’m just hanging out with her and we’re doing silly stuff and if I make her laugh, the feeling of joy I have is explosive.'

The 30-year-old actress opened up to Parade Magazine on Thursday about her little 'nomadic' family, and how she and 32-year-old French husband Romain Dauriac's separate passions bring them closer together.

The newly-weds welcomed the birth of their daughter, Rose Dorothy, in September of last year. The couple then secretly got married in Montana the following month.

Due to the diverse demands of their careers, they go back and forth between each of their native residences in New York and Paris.

'I live a little bit of everywhere,' the actress admitted. ' My husband and I and the baby are a little bit nomadic at the moment.'

Strut into summer style with a statement jumpsuit like Scarlett

Is Scarlett Johansson your red carpet superhero? The A-list actress is never afraid to take the odd fashion risk or two, most of the time we think it pays off, sometimes admittedly not quite so.

This delicately pleated printed jumpsuit from the Balmain fall 2015 collection, whilst unquestionably striking on the statuesque runway model, does have the potential to swamp Scarlett's petite frame. But with that pixie cut and bright red lip, Scarlett carries off the bold look aplomb.

A jumpsuit is always an instant way to achieve maximum style, with minimal effort, so why not work the look by shopping our edit below?

This Missguided number is a must have for cocktail sipping under the summer sky, while this Band Of Outsiders style will be a festival season go-to. Isn't it time you jumped on the all-in-one trend?

Like any functional marriage, Scarlett said her marriage to Dauriac - an art curator and former journalist - takes a lot of work.

'It takes a man who's not only confident in the love that you have for one another, but confident in what he has going on in his own career. He has to be in a field that's completely different from yours.'

The Avenger's star said that it's the difference in interests and fields that draws them closer together and keeps them learning about each other.

'We're interested in each other's worlds. He's interested in my weird alien entertainment world. It fascinates him because it's so different than what he knows. And I like to go to art openings with him and talk about art and emerging artists with him. That's his passion.'

While being a celebrity has its perks, living in the spotlight can be straining on families and relationships.

'It's hard,' Scarlett said. 'On the one hand, you don't want to isolate your kids, but you don't want to make your kids feel like freaks... there's always going to be an adjustment.'

The international couple have aimed to keep their family-life as private as possible, while adjusting to the new dynamic of raising a daughter and putting her needs first.

'At some point, you have to take your life back and say, 'You know what? If I feel like picking up my dry cleaning and if someone's going to photograph me doing it, so what?' Part of being with your kids is making them feel as safe and normal as you can.'

The Golden Globe nominee finished the Avengers: Age of Ultron at the beginning of her pregnancy, and already headed back to work on three films that will premier in 2016.

One of those films will include her role as Natasha Romanoff, known as the Black Widow, in Captain America:Civil War - the latest addition to the Marvel series.

Scarlett said of her super power alter ego: 'I really enjoy playing this character. She was really the first female superhero, a reluctant one. She's never really been able to forge close relationships with anybody. She's a lone wolf.'
