Ancelotti puts Beckham's PSG move in doubt with new boss keen on Kaka reunion instead

David Beckham's proposed move to Paris St Germain continues to show signs of strain with the latest reports suggesting Carlo Ancelotti is the man putting the brakes on a bid.

Former England captain Beckham has been linked with a move to the French capital for some time, with the vast wealth at the Paris club's disposal following a recent takeover by a group of Qatari investors a key factor.

The 36-year-old is without a club having let his LA Galaxy contract expire, but he remains keen on playing for several years, and has the specific target of representing Team GB at the Olympics.

Paris was believed to be the ideal choice for Beckham, considering the prestige of the club and the standard of Ligue 1. However since former Chelsea boss Ancelotti was confirmed as manager last week, signs are that a deal will not be forced.

According to French newspaper L'Equipe, Ancelotti would prefer to be reacquainted with Brazilian superstar Kaka, a player who would provide better balance to the midfield than Beckham.

It means Beckham may now extend his stay in the States having previously said he would not like to play for another Premier League club except Manchester United.

Sources close to the former Red Devils midfielder said that, as it stands, the veteran is more inclined to stay in America.

Beckham, 36, will hold talks with his adviser, Simon Fuller, over the coming days before making his decision but is reluctant to uproot his wife Victoria and four children, who are settled in Los Angeles.

The player’s Galaxy deal expired at midnight on New Year's Eve, and a one-year, rolling contract is on the table. The LA deal would give Beckham dispensation to play for Team GB in the London Olympics, which fall in the middle of the MLS season.

PSG are currently enjoying the winter break in Dubai, where on Wednesday they face Ancelotti's former club AC Milan in a friendly.
