Going green! The Voice's Emma Birdsall bans nasty chemicals from home launching natural beauty line due to on-going battle with autoimmune disease Lupus

She's battled with the autoimmune disease Lupus for years.

And, although a healthy diet and sleep can subside the illness, Emma Birdsall believes the only way she can stomp out the condition once and for all is by banishing bad chemicals from her home.

The former Voice star has decided to empty out her bathroom cupboard and stock it with plant-based products in a bid to stop nasty substances seeping through her skin and attacking her body.

Speaking to Australia's Pop Sugar, she said: 'I've decided to gradually phase out all products from my bathroom containing parabens, silicones or DEA'

The brunette beauty was plagued with acne and eczema in her late teens, which led her to reach for 'quick fixes' rather than good hearty products to combat the effects.

She believes the chemical-ridden products left her stomach in a mess and is hoping the switch to green-based goodness will help repair the damage she's had on-going for years.

The 23-year-old singer is planning to bring out her own natural beauty line, Harvest, which will be available to buy in the near future, as she wants to encourage other people to ditch the nasties.

She said: 'I think it's really important to take care of your skin and treat it with love even when it's giving you grief.'

'Believe me, I went through a phase of hating myself because of my acne and it was a really bad mental place to be in . . . in fact, it probably made the problem worse,' she added.

The stunner, who took part on the singing show in 2012, regularly bombards her Instagram page with photographs of her healthy meals, green smoothies and natural complexion.

But despite being such an advocate of good health, Emma was rushed to hospital last month when she was knocked down with a bad bout of flu and a five-day migraine.

Taking to her Instagram account at the time, she wrote: 'Oh hospitals how I detest you...I feel I could write a horror film after last nights experience in emergency.'

She added: 'From being practically ignored by triage whilst on the floor shaking in a heap to a shouting old woman in the bed next to me telling the doctor he was a dirty little boy to a constantly aching canula, fluorescent lights and enough drugs to make me still feel like a zombie' 

She then reassured her fans she would be right as rain in no time, adding: 'I am going to be fine! Bad strain of influenza mixed with a 5 day migraine...'
