Bear Grylls in a PEN: $100 ball-point can light fires, launch a flare and even help you catch dinner
- The ball-point pen contains a special metal rod that can be used to make sparks while the inner part of its 3ft paracord can be used as tinder
- The cord itself doubles up as fishing line or even a snare to catch animals
- Can shoot bangers which make a loud explosion to scare away animals
If the idea of venturing into great outdoors brings you out in a cold sweat, then a new gadget could be for you.
A ballpoint pen that boasts features a survivalist would be proud of can also work as a flare gun to seek help if you get lost.
The innocuous-looking item of stationery can also be used to start fires and help you catch dinner.

Hidden weapon: This might look like a ball-point pen but it can also be used to start fires and catch dinner
The pen was designed by California-based Nolan Brundige, who set out to design a multi-tool to save space in his bag when he embarked on trips into the wilderness.
He said: 'I go backpacking and camping with my wife all the time.
'One day we went on a six-day trip and I realised that I was wasting space in my pack carrying a whole bunch of different tools.
'So when I got home I went to the drawing boards and what eventually unfolded was the Endure Survival Pen.'
Brundige, 27, a healthcare worker, is now looking for funding to put the pen into production via Kickstarter.
Once the pen is made it will cost $100 - around £70.
The titanium Endure Survival Pen contains a metal rod that can be used to produce sparks, while the inner part of its 3ft paracord can be used as tinder.
The cord itself doubles up as fishing line or even a snare to catch animals.
The ballpoint function is also useful in its own right as it could be used to draw a map or note landmarks if you were lost, Brundige explained.

The pen can start fires, shoots a flare if you are lost, and the 3ft paracord fob can be used in many different survival situations. It can be used as a snare and its inner core can be used as tinder
'I wanted something that you could carry everyday, so I integrated a ballpoint pen into the design, but of course it's much more than that.
'It also can start fires, shoot a flare if you are lost, and the 3ft paracord fob can be used in many different survival techniques including the inner core being flammable and starting a fire with one spark.
'Its the first multi-tool to shoot a flare. It's aimed at anyone who likes cool gadgets and gear that could actually save you in a true survival situation.

Lifesaver: Lost adventurers can use the pen (pictrued in action)to provide essential heat in the wilderness
'Campers, backpackers, hikers, hunters, fishers and anyone who enjoys the outdoors will love it.
'It can be used in many situations, but its mainly to be used if you are lost.
'It will start a fire to keep you warm, you can use the paracord to make a snare and catch food, you can use the inner strands for fishing line, and you can also launch a flare to show your position if you someone is close to finding you.
'The Endure can also shoot bear bangers which make a very loud explosion to scare away animals that may want to threaten you.
'The entire tool is made from Grade 2 titanium with a hardened steel clip that can be used as a striker for the ferocerrium rod in case you are not carrying a knife.'
