One in six young people between 25 and 34 years old said to have relied on inheritance from a relative to buy their own house, compared to just one in 20 people aged over 55, housing charity Shelter said. Half think their children will be able to buy their first home only after receiving an inheritance, a survey of more than 1,000 parents suggest.
Bristol letting agent under fire for telling landlords to squeeze tenants for extra rent as 11,000 locals sign petition in protest
A Bristol-based letting agent has come under fire from angry locals after it sent out a letter encouraging landlords in the area to put up rents. The Southville branch of CJ Hole, which has 19 offices in Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset, encouraged landlords to hike them because of the 'buoyant' market in the area.

Nine out of the ten areas in the UK where demand for property was highest last month are in the South East, new research shows. With commuters put off by sky-high London property prices, potential buyers are flocking to the likes of Guildford (pictured above) and Reading, online estate agent eMoov reveals. Eight out of 10 of the highest climbers in terms of housing demand since December 2014 are located in the North.

First-time buyers need to save just £8,000 to get a mortgage for a £200,000 home after launch of Help To Buy Isa in Budget
The tiny deposit required is possible because of a combination of the lucrative bonus from the new Isa and existing homebuyer schemes that offer interest-free loans. With the Help To Buy Isa, the Government rewards savings of £200 a month with a £50 bonus. First-time buyers can also snap up a new-build home with just a 5 per cent deposit by using the Help To Buy scheme. With this, the Government offers a 20 per cent interest-free loan for five years.
