Go Girls! Lena Dunham and Kim Kardashian honoured in Variety's Power of Women issue

Lena Dunham is known for being an outspoken star - whether it be about body image or political issues.

And in Variety's latest issue - themed Power of Women - the 28-year-old was honored for speaking out against sex trafficking, through support of non-profit Girls Educational & Mentoring Services.

She took to Twitter on Tuesday, to show her gratitude to the magazine for its support, writing: 'Thank you @Variety for highlighting issues that matter.'

Lena looks striking on the cover, sporting a crisp, collared white button down along with a fitted black jacket.

The Girls star held onto the lapels of her jacket as she looked off-screen in the shot, for which they used little make-up, instead showing off her natural beauty.

In the issue Lena discussed becoming involved with Gems, because of her friend Audrey Gelman, and why she knew she had to lend her voice to the issue.

'What attracted me so much to the cause is that I’m a feminist and I’m a sexual assault survivor,' she shared.

'I felt that it was important to me to not just call attention to the circumstances (around) which I was assaulted on a college campus, but also to call attention to sexual-abuse survivors who have far less of a public voice.'

The organization, started in 1998 by British activist and author Rachel Lloyd, helped 371 women last year through its services, which include counseling, housing, legal help, and job coaching.

Lena continued: 'There are so many girls, particularly in urban areas, who are born to parents who may be drug addicted and violent.

'These pimps are waiting at the bus to tell these girls, ‘You seem amazing. I love you and want to be your boyfriend,’' she said.

'What feels like a loving relationship turns into them being forced to go out and make a living. What’s happening is rape. It’s statutory rape by the most basic definition,' the HBO star shared.

She took to her social media accounts following the reveal of the cover, to thank the publication for helping her to shed light on such an issue.

Alongside a photo of the cover posted to Instagram, she wrote: 'Thank you @variety for including me as a Power of Women honoree and highlighting the incredible work of Rachel Lloyd and @gemsgirls. Together let's end commercial sexual exploitation and domestic sex trafficking #girlsarenotforsale'

Lena also shared her gratitude on Twitter, posting: 'Proud to support the incredible work of GEMS. Thank you @Variety for highlighting issues that matter'

The Girls creator was joined in the issue by fellow honorees Kim Kardashian, Rachel Weisz, Whoopi Goldberg, and Glenn Close.

Kim's cover showed a close-up shot of the star, highlighting her precise cat eye, soft pink lipstick, and dazzling diamond earrings.

The reality star looked over her shoulder in the photo, which was in honor of her dedicated work with the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Rachel sported a form-fitting dress as she posed casually on her black and white cover for the special issue, letting her brunette locks cascade down her shoulders in soft waves.

The Mummy actress was dubbed one of Variety's New York Women of Power honorees because of her work with Opportunity Network, which aids kids in the New York City area with internships, preparation for interviews and college application tutors.

Variety also opted for a black and white photo when shooting honoree Whoopi, whose eyes are closed on the blissful cover shot.

The View co-host is an honorary chair of Figure Skating in Harlem, a nonprofit that helps young girls - roughly 250 - learn leadership and academic skills through the sport.

Glen looked poised as she donned all black in her cover photo, which was shot to show off the star's profile.

After viewing her sister's struggles, the Damages actress started the nonprofit Bring Change 2 Mind - in 2010 - to raise awareness and start a conversation about mental illness.

Meanwhile, cover girl and honoree Lena was seen out in New York City on Wednesday, as she continued filming for season five of her HBO hit Girls.

She wore a brightly colored floral dress for the occasion, but covered it up with a black zip-up jacket to keep warm.

Lena accessorized with a pair of tan UGG boots, and showed off a dark manicure as she carried a Dunkin' Donuts coffee in one hand and a stack of papers - likely a script - in the other.

Season 5 of HBO's Girls is expected to premiere in 2016.

Step into spring with Uggs and florals like Lena

Although some people dress to the nines to walk the streets of NY, us normal folk like to keep things cozy in a pair of snUGG footwear to protect our tootsies and we reckon Lena Dunham had the same idea.

The pixie-cut actress looked super comfy in her turgid floral shirt dress and practical UGG boots, which she had in the springy short style. We're never one to blame a person for choosing comfort over a pair of stilettos, especially when it looks like she's on the job.

Although they’ve divided the fash pack for many a year, UGG boots will never go out of style and they’ve pretty much been ingrained into a woman’s expected everyday wardrobe. So get Lena’s exact pair with a click to the right to Zappos, guilt-free.

Still struggling to make the UGG commitment? Check out our edit of similar boots below, which will solve all your cozy footwear dilemmas. And this is the perfect time of year to buy because they're all on sale. Take that, stiletto!
