Have you seen my movie yet? Russell Crowe wears hoodie, jeans ... and a T-shirt emblazoned with The Water Diviner as he arrives at taping of The View in New York

His directorial debut had box office success when it opened in Australia last year.

But Russell Crowe isn't done promoting The Water Diviner, and wore a T-shirt emblazoned with the film's logo as he arrived at a taping for daytime talk show The View in New York on Thursday.

Casually clad in a hoodie, jeans and sneakers, the 51-year-old actor is in the US for a string of appearances as the Australian-made war film opens around the country.

He was seen greeting and signing autographs for gleeful fans outside the studio before being whisked away for the show.

The film, which is about an Australian man who goes searching for his missing sons in Turkey after the battle of Gallipoli in World War I, has been met with some criticism in the States.

Some academics and people of Armenian ancestry around the world have condemned the film's plot for failing to include any historical context of the Armenian Genocide, which is widely understood to have begun the day before the ANZACs landed on Turkish shores.

On Thursday night Russell joined Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, with the trio enjoying an evening watching Anne Hathaway's one-woman show Grounded.

He wore his trusty white shirt over a charcoal coat, while the rest of the gang was adorned in mostly black outfits.

Promoting the flick on CBS's This Morning, Russell and Charlie Rose ended up discussing his marriage with Danielle Spencer.

'To this day everything I do is still connected to that,' the Gladiator star said in reference to ex-wife Danielle and their two kids Charles, 11, and Tennyson, eight.

'I didn't get married to get divorced.'

The estranged couple separated in 2012 after nine years of marriage, and the Oscar winner added he hopes to convince her to rekindle their relationship in the future.
