Nicky Hilton has a spring in her step as she heads to lunch in a cute white full skirt and semi-sheer patterned top

She's in the middle of planning her upcoming wedding, so there's no doubt Nicky Hilton has plenty to smile about at present.

And the 31-year-old socialite certainly appeared to have a spring in her step as she headed out to lunch with her friends in New York City on Thursday.

Dressed in a cute white retro-inspired knee-length dress, the star couldn't have looked more elegant as she headed to the New York Presbyterian Hospital lunch.

The sleeveless summery frock, which had a light yellow and sheer lace detail at the top and was cinched in at the waist, showed off Nicky's slender physique perfectly.

The 31-year-old accessorised the dress, made by couture designer Dennis Basso, with a nude clutch bag and matching peep toe heels.

She left her beautiful blonde locks down in loose waves and added a touch of bohemian to her look with a pretty plait detail across the top of her head.

Also in full view was her huge diamond engagement ring, which she was presented with by her banker fiance, James Rothchild, last August.

Check in with ladies who lunch like Nicky Hilton in Dennis Basso

Nicky Hilton strides to her charity luncheon with on point socialite style in a Dennis Basso lace dress. She pairs her delicate dress with nude platform Christian Louboutin peep toes and suede clutch. We love how she styled her hair with a braided crown to highlight the ethereal aura of her look.

Dennis Basso is a designer that all socialites are quite chummy with. He specializes in over the top luxury and everyone has to have one of his furs or they're off the NY Social diary list. He lives and shows in NY and dresses all the ladies who lunch on Madison Avenue.

For your next high wattage event, we suggest looking for Dennis Basso dresses. The fabric is incredible and just exude finery. However if you're like most of us who aren't socialites but just want to get her lady-like look, we found several affordable and versatile options below. We love the one from BB Dakota and the slightly sexier style from BCBG but the BooHoo one is only $16 so that's a steal that you have to try.

Nicky, the younger sister of socialite Paris Hilton, was invited to the New York hospital luncheon to celebrate the ribbing cutting for the new cardiac health department.

During the event, she posted a picture of her enjoying lunch and drinks with some girl pals on her Instagram account.

'Loved seeing my girls Vera & Inga at the @NYPHospital ladies luncheon,' she captioned the shot.

The star looked fresh-faced and glowing despite having had a late night the evening before, where she attended the New York Premiere of new film Iris at Paris Theatre.

Sporting another white knee-length dress with black and green detail around the neck, the fashion model looked pretty as she stopped for a picture at the event. This time, she added a splash of colour to the outfit with a yellow and light pink handbag and gold strappy heels.

She tweeted: 'Went to a screening of 'Iris' tonight. Loved the fashion, boldness and comedy! Totally fell in love with @irisapfel.'

Earlier in the day, she was spotted looking casual, and carrying a coffee and her phone as she picked up her dress for the luncheon the next day.

The trips out were just the tonic the star needed as two days earlier she tweeted fans to tell them of the loss of her sister's beloved chihuahua, Tinkerbell, who died from natural causes.

She wrote on Twitter: 'Such a sad day We lost the sweetest, kindest soul #riptinkerbell.'

Meanwhile, according to Page Six, Nicky is set to marry British banking heir James Rothschild on July 10.

The loved-up pair are said to be planning a lavish ceremony in a yet-to-be-named venue near London – where her husband-to-be lives.

She met with several top designers during Paris Fashion Week for fittings for her bridal dress but is still to make her decision on the final design.

Nicky met James at Petra Ecclestone’s wedding to James Stunt in Italy in 2011 and he popped the question at Lake Como last August.
