Real Housewives Of New Jersey star Amber Marchese diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time despite undergoing a double mastectomy six years ago

Amber Marchese is once again battling breast cancer after a lump she discovered earlier this month was found to be malignant.

The 37-year-old star underwent surgery on Monday telling family and fans that the statistics were in her favour.

However, on Friday the Real Housewives Of New Jersey star 's husband, James, confirmed to TMZ that the cancer had returned.

The star said via her husband that she 'go forward like Superwoman'.

Amber was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer six years ago, when she discovered numerous lumps while breast feeding her daughter.

The reality star then underwent aggressive treatment including a double mastectomy and year and half of chemotherapy therapy.

Despite this, the cancer has returned as it does on rare occasions to women who have undergone the procedure to remove their breasts.

Just before her surgery, the star took to Twitter to talk about her fears after finding the thump.

She wrote: 'I originally wanted to keep my current situation a private matter until today. Truth be told, I found another mass, in the same breast as my first diagnosis, this past Friday before Easter.

'I found it while relaxing on the couch watching a movie with my husband. I lifted my arms over my head, touched the side of my breast (I am not sure what made me do that) and there it was. A small pea sized, somewhat bean shaped, lump.'

The star said immediately she feared the worst and the last few weeks 'have been hell'.

Despite this, the mother of four - Corbin and Isabella and stepchildren Michael and Sebastian - tried to solider on and go on holiday to the Bahamas with her family but said she struggled to keep the bad news from her children.

'I kept a smile on my face in front of everyone and cried in private (you may have noticed my puffy face in most of the pictures).

'My mind's rational side keeps repeating that the odds of it being cancerous are very low, it truly is, but I quickly revert back to thoughts of the worst kind… recalling the first round. As comforting as the statistics should be to me, I still have spent the last couple of weeks in complete anxiety, fear, and stress. I was swept right back into the agony one faces when they could possibly face death.'

The star said she has tried to find solace in her Catholic faith: 'As I usually do in times of stress, I shut most of the world out, focus in on my family, and pray to God, a lot.

'My faith in God and my physical presence in Church gave me a sense of peacefulness. It is all going to be fine, regardless what the outcome. I am physically strong and through my spiritual faith, I am mentally strong.

'I embrace my faith instead of saying ''why me'', trust me, that went through my mind more than once in the past several weeks.

'God willing, I can put this all behind me and simply be mom again, however in the meantime I will continue to strengthen my faith and show my love to all.'

Amber is a recent addition to the New Jersey Housewives having joined the cast last year in season 6.
