She's a lioness! Thandie Newton layers up in wild t-shirt as she enjoys day out in NYC with her cute son Booker

She's been in New York to share her wisdom at the Women in the World Summit.

But in between sharing her story, the actress had plenty of time to bond with her number one man - her adorable son Booker.

The 42-year-old actress was spotted heading out in New York on Friday with her baby boy, with the movie star choosing a lion print t-shirt and jeans for her outing.

Thandie looked cute in her casual look, layering a thick knitted cardigan over her loose t-shirt which featured a bold animal print.

The actress added some grey jeans and bright yellow trainers to her look and kept her hair and makeup natural.

With a multi-coloured bag slung over her arm, the mum of three balanced little Booker on her hip as she headed out into the city.

Her little boy, who was born last year, looked super cute in his cosy grey coat and navy beanie hat, beaming as he was carried by his doting mum.

Thandie is in the Big Apple for the Women in the World Summit, which brings together women leaders and activists to share stories for a better life for women and girls.

The star was speaking at The Beautiful Brain event on Friday morning, joining bloggers and psychologists to discuss 'how all women and girls can use the latest research to boost their self-esteem.'

As the mother of two teenage daughters with her writer husband Oliver Parker, Ripley and Nico, Thandie was keen to impart her experiences of working in the public eye as well as the lessons she's learned as a mother of teenage girls.

The star, who grew up in Cornwall with her English father and her Zimbabwean mother, has always been open about her struggle to fit in in her early years, telling the TEDGlobal 2011 conference that 'from about the age of five, I was aware that I didn't fit.

'I was the black atheist kid in the all-white Catholic school run by nuns. I was an anomaly, and my self was rooting around for definition and trying to plug in...But my skin color wasn't right. My hair wasn't right. My history wasn't right.'

She explained that it wasn't until she was 16 that she began to move forward from these feelings.

'I stumbled across another opportunity, and I earned my first acting role in a film. I can hardly find the words to describe the peace I felt when I was acting.'

'My dysfunctional self could actually plug into another self, not my own, and it felt so good,' she has said of her love of acting.
