Does this dress go with my fluffy green slippers? Oprah goes shopping in very unusual footwear
|
She may be worth billions of dollars but even Oprah Winfrey opts for comfort over style occasionally.
The 58-year-old hit a designer clothes store in New York City today sporting a pair of fluffy frog slippers.
She even held up a sage green frock up to herself in the mirror of Morgane le Fay while wearing the comfortable footwear.
Mix and match: Oprah Winfrey went shopping at Morgane le Fay in New York City on Thursday sporting a comfortable pair of green frog slippers
Earlier, Oprah had left her home in the slippers as she was collected in the early hours of the morning to guest host Good Morning America
In a skit on the show, presenters George
Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth collected Oprah from her New York home,
with the star opening her door looking a little like she had just got
out of bed.
With curlers still in her hair, Oprah embraced Ali before running through the lobby of her apartment, declaring they were 'already late.'
Comfort over style: Oprah seemed more than happy with her loose fitting low key ensemble as she browsed through the racks of clothes
Dressing for comfort: Oprah Winfrey arrived at the Good Morning America studios in New York City on Thursday morning wearing pale green fluffy bedroom slippers
George took the wheel, driving Oprah to the studios before she glammed up, changing into a bright orange dress and multi-coloured matching heels to present the show.
She was standing in for regular host Robin Roberts, who is on sick leave.
On the show, she even took a call from Roberts who discussed how she is recovering from her recent bone marrow transplant.
On a roll: Oprah Winfrey sported a head full of curlers during a skit where she was collected by her Good Morning America co-hosts for a skit on Thursday's show
Embrace: Presenter Ali Wentworth wore her pyjamas to collect Oprah from her apartment
Running late: Oprah was seen rushing through the lobby of her apartment building with her hair still in curlers
Time for a wave: Despite looking far from her usually preened self, some passers by seemed to recognise the star and she waved to them from the window
Comfort over style: Oprah sported cosy looking slippers for her grand entrance
'It's day 35,' she told Oprah. 'Thirty-five days ago I had my bone marrow transplant, and it is a journey, my friend, as you have taught me.
'I am so incredibly blessed to be doing as well as I am.
'Some days I do feel like I am 35 days old and can't get my head off the pillow. But those days are becoming fewer and fewer.'
Later, sporting sunglasses, perhaps to hide tired eyes, Oprah swapped back into her slippers, gamely shuffled along the ranks of autograph hunters outside the New York studios.
Earlier on GMA Oprah discussed the early struggles of her new television network OWN, which she launched last year.
Slipper pride: A laughing Oprah showed off her oversized slippers to photographers while signing autographs outside the show
Driven by the co-host: Good Morning America anchor George Stephanopoulos drove his co-hosts to work
Not so TV friendly: Oprah rode in the back of the car with the TV host in glasses and curlers
'You know what the problem was? I wasn’t there,' she said. 'I wasn’t surrounded by all of the people who I was accustomed to working with.
'There were a couple of days back in the spring and early on that I asked myself, "What have I done,’ because I expected that it would be a lot easier."
'I expected that I would be able to go into the office every day or so. I expected that I would just call up people and do an interview when I wanted. It doesn’t work that way.'
A dream in tangerine: Oprah later glammed up in a long sleeved tangerine dress and brightly coloured pattered heels
Studio presence: Oprah is escorted through to the studio by two assistants at Times Square
Hugging it out: Oprah embraced GMA host Lara Spencer whose outfit looked conservative in comparison
'I think we’re in the full turn now,' she said. 'For the past nine months, we’ve shown amazing growth and some really great shows. We’re getting traction.'
Oprah also expressed her ambition to star on the New York stage.
'My dream is to do Broadway,' she said. 'That is going to happen.'
