'Relationships are challenging things': Kate Hudson reveals her mom Goldie Hawn told her to focus on female friendships... as men 'can come and go'
She doesn't seem in any hurry to walk down the aisle with her rocker boyfriend, and a new interview with Kate Hudson perhaps reveals part of the reason why.
In the chat with SELF, the divorced mother-of-two explains that relationships are challenging and that she heeds advice from movie star mom Goldie Hawn about honouring female friendships.
The 35-year-old actress, who has been engaged to Muse frontman Matt Bellamy (the father of her son, Bing, two) since April 2011, told the mag: 'Relationships are the
most challenging things.
Opening up: Kate Hudson sat down with SELF to chat about relationships, diets and the best advice a girl can have
'It’s where you do the most work in your life.
'You come face-to-face with yourself, and if you can deal with realizing we’re all flawed, accept it and work with it, you might have a really amazing, lasting relationship.'
She added that her best advice came from 68-year-old Hawn: 'My mom once said something so poignant to me: "Honor your female friendships, because men can come and go, but when we nurture our relationships with women, they can be forever." I really believe that. My girlfriends are so important to me. They’ve been my rock-solid foundation.'

Hawn has been married twice, the second time to Kate's father, Bill, a member of the Hudson Brothers.
She has found lasting love, however, with Kurt Russell; the pair have been an item for 30 years though tellingly never married.
Kate also chatted about her 'insecurities' and revealed: 'I can look at a picture of Gisele [Bündchen] all day long and say, "I’ll never have legs that long or lips that big." You have to honor who you are.'
The actress, who was married to Black Crows frontman Chris Robinson - who is the father of her eldest boy, Ryder, ten - also revealed she likes to treat herself with food occasionally.

She said: 'I make sure I eat well without depriving myself of the things that I love: a cheeseburger and fries, creamy white-truffle pasta, bowls of ice cream. Everything in moderation, but I indulge at least three times a week.'
The practicing Buddhist added: 'I think happiness is a practice but not the sort you find in self-help books, where you smile and have a vision board.

'I love the idea of a gratitude journal, but there are times when mine turns into a venting journal...a big ol’ vent.'
And in summing up, Kate outlined her two driving ambitions.
'I want to be around for a while for my kids - and also fit into the jeans I’ve always loved,' she explained.
The May edition of SELF featuring Kate hits newstands across the U.S. on April 29.
