The country's home ministry confirmed that 1,341 people have been killed as rescue teams continue to search for survivors after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal's capital Kathmandu. It destroyed homes, offices and a historic tower. Panicked residents rushed into the streets as the tremor erupted around midday, with the impact felt hundreds of miles away in big swathes of northern India and even in Bangladesh. The United States Geological Survey said the quake struck 81 kilometres (50 miles) northwest of Kathmandu at 06.11 GMT, with walls crumbling and families racing outside of their homes.

Missing sisters survived for TWO weeks on Girls Scout cookies, cheese puffs and melted snow after their SUV got stuck on remote snow-bound road

CRISP POINT, Mich. (AP) -- Two sisters from Oklahoma and Nebraska missing for nearly two weeks in Michigan survived on Girl Scout cookies while stuck in their snow-crippled SUV until state police discovered them Friday near Lake Superior in a remote part of the Upper Peninsula.

A pilot noticed a reflection off the Ford Explorer and landed the police helicopter on shore, finally ending the women's unexpected wilderness adventure. Leslie Roy, 52, and Lee Marie Wright, 56, were examined at a hospital and released.

"It was sheer joy," Detective Sgt. Jeff Marker told The Associated Press, describing their reaction to the rescue. "It was almost disbelief that it was finally happening."

Roy of Valley, Nebraska, and Wright of Depew, Oklahoma, got stuck about three miles from Crisp Point Lighthouse in Luce County in the Upper Peninsula. They had been visiting relatives in Ishpeming, in another part of the peninsula, and were planning to head south on April 11.

Leslie Roy, 52, and Lee Wright, 56, had been visiting relatives in Michigan when on April 11 their Ford Explorer got stuck in snow on little-used road, setting the stage for a harrowing ordeal.

A longtime personal aide to Senate Appropriations Chairman Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) was charged Thursday in Washington with possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Fred W. Pagan, who is 49 and earned $160,000 last year as Cochran?s personal assistant and office administrator, was charged by criminal complaint in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

U.S. Magistrate Deborah Robinson released Pagan on his own recognizance after an initial court appearance Friday afternoon, at which Pagan said he would retain his own lawyer. Pagan could not be immediately reached for comment.

Redford police are investigating to find out if the mother is the one responsible for the baby's death. 

The newborn baby was found dead in the mother's bag under her desk in the cubicle and police are working to find out if the baby had been born alive.

The discovery was made at about 10 a.m. Tuesday morning at Ceva Logistics on Glendale. 

It started when employees who declined to go on camera, told FOX 2 they heard moaning coming from the women's restroom.

A few people finally checked and discovered blood all over the bathroom stall. But no one knew why.

They rushed back to the office to find out if everyone was okay. Only one woman  at first didn't answer, a 26-year-old from Wyandotte. No one knew had been pregnant.
