'Where is your lipstick? Put it on!' Modern Family's Julie Bowen says co-star Sofia Vergara 'is a great influence' on her

By Cassie Carpenter

On ABC's Modern Family, Sofía Vergara plays Julie Bowen's younger stepmother.

But in real life, the blonde 44-year-old says the Columbian diva - who turns 42 next month - 'is a great influence' on her.

'Sofía is a great influence on being a woman, she's a great influence on accepting the power of pretty, and she's a great influence on having a sense of humor,' the two-time Emmy winner revealed on the summer/fall cover of NewBeauty.

'She doesn't go out without putting on lipstick and she is the first person to say to me: "Where is your lipstick? Put it on!" She's always at award shows telling me that. And I always feel so weird, like someone will think I'm trying too hard. She tells me all the time, "Who cares?"'

Bowen - born Luetkemeyer - said she didn't highlight her hair or get a manicure until she was in her 20s.

'Shaving my legs was about as exotic as I got,' Julie confessed.

She said: 'There are people shoving you out there and yelling. As someone at home watching the red carpet show, it looks so glamorous, but it is very much a factory.'

"Sofía is a great influence on being a woman". Of course, because as we all know, the most important thing about being a woman is making sure you have lipstick on. If you don't look good, what's the use of you?

Can't stand comedy shows! When a new one comes on, I change channels after about 10 minutes. One day Modern Family came on as I was rolling out pie dough and I couldn't change the channels. After 40-50 years, I FINALLY found a comedy worth watching. I love every character on the show, especially Sofia and Eric Stonestreet. I hope the show is around for years to come!!!!!

She's beautiful and so is Sofia, in both different ways

She has some good-looking legs going on. And it's nice to hear a performer speak well (and sounding sincere) about a cast member. I'm not an avid tv watcher but the entire cast of that show is perfection.

I love both these women, they are beautiful and funny and charming, but in different ways. Julie plays the Claire character so well.
