NRL players caught in gambling probe

By Australian Associated Press

An NRL investigation has reportedly revealed that a number of players are involved in betting on matches.

The findings by the games integrity unit were laid out to several clubs yesterday, and a number of players are now believed to be facing sanctions, The Weekend Australian reports.

NRL rules forbid any player, player manager, club employee or game official from taking part in gambling in relation to rugby league.

The newspaper said it was unclear how many clubs or players were involved, but that the investigation had involved multiple players and multiple teams.

The investigation was reportedly launched after the NRL and its betting partners conducted a review of gambling within the code.
