An employee at a Chicago discount store was killed Friday morning after a gun stashed inside a donated sock accidentally went off.

The incident took place inside Unique Thrift at 9341 South Ashland Avenue on Chicago's South Side at around 9.45am.

Police say the freak accident happened while the 54-year-old victim and a co-worker were going through donated clothing in a back room.

When the colleague shook a sock, a gun tumbled out and discharged, striking the 54-year-old in the chest.

The fatally wounded store employee was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead an hour later, Chicago Tribune reported.

A spokesperson for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office told MailOnline that an autopsy will be performed on the victim Saturday.

Guns don't fall on the ground and discharge themselves. Modern designs, since the mid-20th century prevent that from happening. The Chicago Tribune story says that another worker shook the gun "out of a sock" and "into his hand" where it "accidentally went off" Given what I know about guns & people. I'm guessing that this idiot found the gun & pulled the trigger to find out if it would really go BANG!

Surely there is a way we can blame Obama for this.

But I am sure that you will find a way to blame Bush, gun owners, the NRA or the 2nd Amendment.
