Making new friends: The handsome actor inspected animal shelters alongside a camera crew
The Rescue Waggin' program picks up dogs from overcrowded partner shelters to place them in areas where they are more likely to be adopted.
The charity touts it has saved more than 70,000 dogs from euthanasia since its inception in 2004, and sees dogs adopted within days of their move.
Duhamel, who volunteers for PetSmart Chairities, opened up to Parade Magazine about the project that ultimately aims to increase the adoption rate of dogs.
My story: Actress Kristen Bell explained how she adopted her dogs Mr Shakes and Lola in the first episode of the web series
Group hug! The animal lover gave her pooches a big hug as she recalled her reasons for adopting
'Animal shelters are overrun with adoptable dogs that don’t get adopted. Up to four million dogs get killed each year at kill shelters. Rescue Waggin' goes in and scoops up these dogs, and takes them to no-kill shelters where they have a better chance of finding a forever home,' Duhamel told the magazine.
The Safe Haven actor, alongside his Black Eyed Peas wife Fergie, has adopted an eight-year-old dachshund named Zoe that has since become a member of his growing family.
'He is already forming a bond with her. She is so gentle around him. He drops a ball, and she brings it back to him. I think she is teaching him how to throw,' Duhamel told the publication.
Duhamel shared a teaser trailer of the projected onto his Instagram, explaining in his caption: 'All #dogs deserve a forever home; so I teamed up with@PetSmartCharities on a new web series about their#RescueWaggin program. Check it out! http://www.rescuewaggin.org.'
Bell made an appearance alongside her two adopted dogs, Lola and Mr. Shakes, that she adopted simultaneously.
Mr. Shakes was rescued just a day before his expected kill date, the blonde actress explained.

The happy family: The trio sat pretty for the camera
'He was actually on the hit list,' Bell said as she stroked Mr. Shakes. 'He was going to be euthanised the next day, and I wanted a friend for her during the day and I just walked in and kind of took the first in line.'
So You Think You Can Dance judge Adam Shankman described how he saved his white Labrador, Jake, from a near fatal end when his family almost disposed of him.
'Jake is my day-to-day touch stone. He is there through thick and thin. I think as a rescue he feels incredibly appreciative. I know that my life is certainly much better with him in it,' Shankman explained, all the while lovingly stroking his sleepy dog.

Kisses! Shankman lovingly placed a smooch on Jake's head during the episode
'In my life I've always adopted because it just doesn't make sense for me to go to a breeder when there's all of these dogs and puppies that just need love and care and they're already alive,' Shankman said, referring to dogs awaiting their forever homes in shelters.
The first two episodes of Rescue Waggin' are already available to view, and new episodes will be available to the public every Monday in March.
The series are being released by Duhamel's production company, Dakotakid Media, and will also be featuring a cameo by celebrity Bret Michaels.
