DAILY MAIL COMMENT: The jobless habit
Shocking official figures reveal that almost 1.5million Britons have never done a day's work since they left school.
It's worrying enough that 600,000 of them are under 25 -
although many younger Neets, victims of the recession, may yet acquire
the habit of work.
Benefits: Nearly 1.5m Britons have never done a day's work since leaving school
But the news that 800,000 people who have never had a job are aged between 25 and 64 is truly frightening.
For far too many of these, unemployment has become an ingrained way of life. And under a benefits system that saps incentives to work, it's easy to see why.
The sooner that system is shaken up, so that institutionalised unemployment ceases to be a viable lifestyle choice, the sooner the Coalition will restore hope to those who need it most.
