Letting it go! Idina Menzel ditches brunette hair for blonde makeover at White House Correspondents' Dinner

She has sung the words: 'Let it go' many times as the voice behind Disney's hit animated musical Frozen.

And it seems the refrain echoed again for Idina Menzel as she made a spectacular appearance at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.

The 43-year-old emerged with a striking transformation in which she abandoned her familiar jet black hair for a blonde makeover.

Posing for photos on the red carpet, she cut a glamorous figure in a Monique Lhuillier floor-length gown that featured a pink halterneck bodice, red A-line skirt and embellishments across the waist.

She completed the look with silver Brian Atwood heels, Jacob & Co jewels and a purple Judith Leiber clutch.

Idina brought along Aaron Lohr as her date, who was her co-star in the 2005 off-Broadway musical See What I Wanna See.

That same year they shared the big screen together in the 2005 film adaptation of Rent - a movie they also co-starred with her then-husband Taye Diggs.

The Tony Award winner met actor Taye Diggs, 44, in 1995 when they starred in the Broadway production of Rent. They married in 2003 and have five-year-old son Walker together.

In 2013 they separated after 10 years of marriage and finalized their divorce in December 2014.

After moving on from the split, the vocal powerhouse admitted to Redbook in an interview last year that between her busy schedule and raising her child, she's ready for romance, but has little time.

'I’m open to it. I just don’t have a lot of time. They’d have to meet me at, like, midnight after the show, and that’s kind of slutty, isn’t it?' she revealed.

Meanwhile, the Glee actress led handsome singer-actor Aaron inside the venue by hand and posed for photos with guests.

Fox Business Network anchor Liz Claman took to her Twitter page to share a snap alongside the Broadway darling.

'Easily one of the most brilliant and talented people in attendance at the #WHCD Ms @idinamenzel @GLEEonFOX' the journalist captioned the photo.

The 51-year-old had on a draped teal dress that had a rather large keyhole around her generous bust.

At the star-studded gala she was joined by a boldface roster of celebrities like Bradley Cooper, Gabourey Sidibe, Naya Rivera, Chrissy Teigen and Lucy Liu.

The soiree - also referred to as 'nerd prom' - includes a roast of President Obama and his administration. It is a Washington, D.C. tradition that began in 1920.

Idina appears to have some free time after wrapping her Broadway role in If/Then on March 22 as she readies for her world tour that launches on July 7 in Richmond, Virginia and concludes on October 3 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
