In the note, written in her youthful hand, she gushed: 'You were pure genius in Little Miss Sunshine (one of my all time favorite films), my brother became obsessed with you after Anchorman, I wanted to marry you or have you adopt me after Crazy, Stupid, Love, I hated that guy you played in The Way Way Back, and then you were mind-blowing in Foxcatcher.

As well as admitting she wanted to 'marry' the actor in her younger days, she made sure to thank him for his support in her HeForShe UN Women drive.

The staunch campaigner and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador added: 'I think you're so awesome and today you are wearing #HeForShe Monique Péan cufflinks at the Oscars to support Gender Equality.

The actor, who had been nominated in the Best Actor category at the Oscars for his role in Foxcatcher - but lost out to The Theory Of Everything's Eddie Redmayne, made sure to respond.

In a message posted on Twitter, he replied: 'Thanks @EmWatson. An honor to support #HeForShe and gender equality.'

Emma was recently revealed to have landed the starring role in the new live-action Beauty And The Beast movie.

But she has gained more fame and respect in recent months for her work with the United Nations in her role as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, a title she gained last year.

Since being named ambassador, she has launched the HeForShe initiative, which aims to get men involved in gender equality.

And in January, she joined world leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos to unveil plans for another campaign in the HeForShe remit, a pilot initiative to galvanize momentum in advancing gender equality and women's empowerment.

Sitting beside UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon on the panel, she discussed the enterprise, which will take big steps to decrease the gender gap across the world.

It was revealed as a one-year pilot effort that aims to engage governments, corporations and universities as instruments of change positioned within some of the communities that most need to address deficiencies in women's empowerment and gender equality, and that have the greatest capacity to make and influence those changes.

Each sector will identify approaches for addressing gender inequality, and pilot test the effectiveness of these interventions for growth.

The 24-year-old actress also took the time to thank actor Jake McDorman, who also wore the HeForShe cufflinks at the movie awards ceremony.

Referencing the joke in his biography, she penned: 'Dear Jake, I wrote 'Will act for food' on the back of my graduation cap at Brown. We are clearly kindred spirits!!

'Thank you so much for supporting Gender Equality tonight at the Oscars. You're awesome. Emma x.'

The actor, who is best known for his role in TV series Greek, had previously shared a picture of the cufflinks on his Twitter page.

'So very proud to wear these #OscarsCufflinks by @MONIQUEPEAN to support @HeforShe & @EmWatson at the awards tonight,' he wrote.
