Colin Farrell is a silver fox as he sports longer locks with grey streaks while filming scenes for True Detective in Los Angeles

He is known for stealing hearts with his dashing appearance and by utilising his wise-cracking quick wit in his unmistakable Irish accent.

And though Colin Farrell's heartthrob days aren't fully behind him, his looks have definitely matured.

The 38-year-old actor showed off flashes of grey in his long brown tresses while filming scenes on the Los Angeles set of True Detective on Saturday.

He also looked a bit scruffy as he had a couple days worth of facial hair growth and tucked his unkempt hair behind his ear.

The Phone booth actor plays a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him in the second season of highly popular series.

The Irishman was also seen taking a break from shooting to sip on a drink and chat to his co-star in the HBO critically acclaimed drama, Rachel McAdams.

He was dressed stylishly but comfortable as the Alexander star donned blue denim jeans, a tweed blazer over a khaki button-up and frayed brown boots.

Rachel, 36, looked relaxed as she grabbed a snack and some down time with the actor. 

Her ombre locks were styled in tousled waves and although she must have been wearing screen make-up it was kept minimal and natural looking. 

She also wore jeans with kicked-in boots and kept warm in a dark grey sweater.

The first season was set in Louisiana and spanned a 17-year hunt for a serial killer, while season two is set in California. 

The eight, one-hour-long episode season is getting its premiere on HBO on June 21st.

In the second installment of the Emmy Award winning series, whose first season was helmed by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

Farrell plays Ray Velcoro opposite Vince Vaughn's Frank Semyon, while Rachel McAdams is cast as Sheriff Ani Bezzerides.
