Celebs and fashion houses are keen as mustard for the shade of the autumn

Top fashion houses are keen as mustard, embracing the shade on the catwalks in time for autumn, and High Street stores Topshop, Warehouse, H&M and Zara already have it on the shelves before the last rays of summer.

But what to team it with? Neutral tones such as navy and charcoal are winners or you could try paprika red or gingery orange for a spicy twist.

Mustard suits dark and light complexions, as Rihanna, Kirsten Dunst, Daisy Lowe and Sarah Jessica Parker have proved.

So forget the Dijon, wholegrain or honey when sporting it: it's Colman's all the way - and boy does it pack a punch.

HOW TO WEAR

  • Even a dash of mustard livens up the dullest outfit, so introduce the colour with accessories such as belts, bags or scarves.
  • Mix different tones. Burnt orange with flecks of yellow and brown will create a warm look and complement a fading tan.
  • A bright yellowy mustard works best on textured fabrics such as ribbed jumpers or pleated skirts.
