She's finally got her career back on track after a few years out of the spotlight and Winona Ryder seems keen to make the best of herself.

The Hollywood A-lister, who has settled for a series of bit parts since her Hollywood crown slipped, is putting her all into new film Homefront and made sure that she looked the part by piling on a face-full of make-up in between takes on Wednesday.

The Gary Fleder film, written by Sylvester Stallone, is set to be one of next year's biggest films so Winona seemed intent on looking her best.

The Edward Scissorhands star, who has dated a string of Hollywood actors including Matt Damon and Johnny Depp, was on set in Ponchatoula, Los Angeles where she was filming scenes with co-star Jason Statham.

In between takes the svelte looking 40-year-old visited her make-up lady who applied eye-liner and blusher to her face.

The star seemed to want to do some of it herself, grabbing a deep red lipstick and putting it on while checking in a compact mirror.

Clutching a bottle of water to rehydrate between scenes, Winona seemed set on getting the best out of her takes, despite the driving rain.

A couple of days ago, the Beetlejuice star was in New Orleans working on the film in which she plays a biker chick, and was seen puffing on a cigarette.

For Wednesday's shoot, the actress had a number of outfits changes, at first wearing tight black trousers, a black waistcoat and high biker boots.

She then changed into a baggy white T-shirt, wearing her brown hair wavy over her shoulders, clearly embracing her inner rock chick.

British star Jason was also spotted shooting scenes for the film in LA, wearing checked short, denim jacket and baseball hat.

The story follows a former DEA agent who moves to a small town with his family and encounters a local drug lord.

Her face looks so fresh still and she hasn't been driven to botox surgery, lipfiller etc. Meaning she has great natural expression in her face which is very important in acting. She always was a bit quirky, glad shes still on the scene rather than going off the rails as a lot of stars in the peak of her fame did.

"The Hollywood A-lister, who has settled for a series of bit parts since her Hollywood crown slipped..." Hardly an 'A-lister' anymore then, is she? Not when actual A-listers tend to be either top of the bill (or sharing it with significant other current A-listers, as in 'The Expendables') or starring in an otherwise crucial supporting-role (like Michael Caine in the recent 'Batman' films) ....... Or has the definition of 'A-lister' changed since I last visited planet Earth?
