Pop heart-throb Justin Bieber was accompanied by a burly bodyguard as he prepared to catch a flight out of Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday.

And while it appeared to be just another day in the life of a celebrity for the star, his high-altitude trip came several hours of having made some fans' dreams come true when he gatecrashed their prom.

The Believe hitmaker stunned students at California's Chatsworth Charter High School when he arrived unannounced at their dance on Saturday evening and immediately hit the dancefloor.

Jet-setter: Pop heart-throb Justin Bieber was spotted arriving at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday

Video footage posted on social media showed Justin wearing a brown shirt and black fedora as he was surrounded by screaming fans, and he even danced briefly with one lucky girl.

The singer was accompanied to the school by friend and rumoured love interest Hailey Baldwin, her pal Gabby Westbrook, and songwriter and producer Jason 'Poo Bear' Boyd.

Hailey, who was reportedly accompanying Justin to a nearby recording studio before spontaneously deciding to go to the prom, tweeted: 'I found a prom and @gabbywestbrook was my prom date.'

The morning after: The previous evening, Justin surprised fans when he gatecrashed their high school prom

Protected: The star was accompanied by a burly security guard as he made his way through the terminal

Staying hydrated: The 21-year-old singer sipped a McDonald's beverage as he prepared to catch his flight

Stepping out in style: Justin strolled into the airport wearing a pair of light grey Nike trainers

And the 'Baby' singer later admitted he had fulfilled a long-held ambition to go to a traditional prom.

The school's official account tweeted: 'Justin Bieber showing up at our prom? I think we know who had the best prom this year #cchsprom.'

The star soon replied: 'Always wanted to go to prom. Thanks for having me. #promcrasher.'

The 'Beauty and a Beat' star also retweeted a number of excited postings from students in attendance, one of which read: 'THANK YOU @justinbieber FOR THE BEST PROM (sic).'

Dream come true: The star later took to Twitter to declare that he had always wanted to go to the prom

In good company: Hailey Baldwin was among the group of friends who accompanied Justin to the prom

Casually cool: Justin wore a black Hawaii cap and a pair of tinted aviator sunglasses for his excursion

Incognito: The Believe hitmaker managed to slip through the busy airport terminal largely unnoticed

And another said: 'No other prom will ever be as turnt as #ChatsworthProm2k15 !! Did @justinbieber go to your prom ?? (sic)'

The following day, as Justin headed off for his flight, he was seen sipping a beverage from McDonald's as he made his way through the busy terminal and headed to the security checkpoint.

Dressed in a grey T-shirt and navy basketball shorts, he tossed away the remainder of his refreshment before getting checked over and strolling to the boarding gate with his bodyguard in tow.
