Blast from the past! Jane Fonda, 77, dazzles in Barbarella-esque clinging outfit... almost 50 years after release of the iconic film made her a sex symbol

Barbarella, the vampy 1968 movie, turned its star Jane Fonda into an iconic sex symbol and while she may now be 77, Jane proved she can still turn heads.

The septuagenarian looked incredible in a clinging full-length gown, which seemed to take inspiration from her Barbarella costumes, at the 101st White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday.

Fonda's dress clung to her figure, highlighting her lean physique, and her stunning appearance made it hard to believe that the movie was released almost 50 years ago.

Barbarella - originally based on the sexy French comic book character - became quite the talking point upon its release.

The most controversial scenes involved the heroine being tortured with an organ-like instrument that delivers sexual pleasure.

Achieve perfection in a black sequin number like Jane's

Jane Fonda never ceases to amaze us with her exuberance. At the White House Correspondents Dinner, she worked the red carpet like a seasoned pro. Looking stunning in a Donna Karan sequined number, she gave some of the young starlets a run for their money.

Although fairly covered up with a turtleneck and long sleeves, she still exudes sexiness. Now in her 70s, the Barbarella actress flaunted her excellent figure in the body hugging dress. The all over sequins gave life to this black dress, proving that sequins are a girl's best friend.

While Jane's dress is custom made by Donna Karan, that doesn't mean you can't steal her glam look. In fact, you could look just as stunning in our edit of black sequin dresses for much less.

Take a cue from Jane and rock it with confidence and ease. Style and panache could be easily achieved no matter your age.

Fonda later lamented the fact she turned down starring roles in Bonnie and Clyde and Rosemary's Baby to star in the film, which was directed by her then husband, Roger Vadim.

A big screen remake of the campy film has been planned for years. Vadim actually wanted to make a sequel starring Drew Barrymore in the title role, but that never happened.

Meanwhile, Fonda caught up with fellow actress Ashley Judd, 47, at the star-studded gala on Saturday.

Ashley looked breathtaking in a strapless purple and blue gown with a flowing train and a large slit up the front.

She coupled the colorful gown with a pair of strappy silver heels, as well as a coordinating silver clutch and bracelet.

Her long brunette locks were styled in loose waves, and she accentuated the look with a bright flower embellishment clipped to her hair.

She otherwise kept her accessories simple for the evening, as well as her make-up - though she did sport a mauve lipstick.

Ashley appeared to have put that Twitter trouble behind, at least for one evening.

Social media trolls zeroed in on the Double Jeopardy star when she tweeted a comment about the SEC championship, after which Ashley vowed to sue them.

Ashley, meanwhile, was joined on the red carpet by Jane, who showed off her trim figure in a form-fitting black, mermaid-style dress.

The shimmery, long-sleeved gown featured a sheer panel by The Newsroom actress's collar, and flared at the bottom.
