Carrie-d away! Sarah Jessica Parker gives her tired daughter a piggyback ride during family day out in NYC

She's a small screen idol to millions of Sex and the City viewers, but in day to day life Sarah Jessica Parker is also a hero to her little girl.

The 50-year-old actress gave her daughter Marion a piggyback ride during a family stroll around their New York neighbourhood on Sunday.

Seeing her five-year-old was tired after a fun day out, the actress scooped her up as they walked home with dad Matthew Broderick and Marion's twin sister Tabitha.

The New Yorkers made the most of some sunny weather in the city over the weekend, enjoying a relaxing day out.

Sarah dressed down in an all black, pairing some loose trousers with a knitted cardigan and grey t-shirt.

The star ditched her heels for some comfy grey ballet bumps and added a pair of large sunglasses to finish off her look.

While mum was in all black, Marion and Tabitha bought the colour with their cute outfits.

Little Marion paired a pale pink tutu dress with a blue cardigan and patterned leggings, while her sister added a striped blue and white dress over her heart print leggings.

While Sarah held the girls hands, Matthew, dressed down in a sweater and lime green trainers, carried a large bag of goodies.

Sarah, who also shares a 12-year-old son James with Matthew, dished about her daughters' sense of style to People Magazine back in February, insisting she has little say in their wardrobe despite her love of fashion.

'They're at an age - and have been for many years - where they really have their own identity,' the actress explained. 'So Sunday through Thursday the rule is they can wear whatever they want. And if we go to the theatre or to the ballet, I get a say. But it's really among choices that they approve of.'

While she might not style her own daughters, Sarah has been working on her own fashion line, launching her SJP Collection Pop-Up Boutique in Las Vegas this month and excitedly sharing Instagram snaps from her trip to Sin City.
