GIRL ABOUT TOWN: Is 'Queen Liz' set to quit her throne?
After having her new TV show The Royals torn apart by critics, Liz Hurley may be quietly abdicating from series two.
The 49-year-old actress is not expecting to return to her role as Queen Consort in the American-made soap about the trials and tribulations of a contemporary British Royal Family.
Producers initially begged the star to appear in the show, which was widely expected to be a hit – even if only in a 'so-bad-it's-good' way.

Unfortunately, the show turned out to be just plain bad, as Liz herself appeared to admit when she revealed that she had felt 'ashamed' when her teenage son Damian read through the series' first script with her.
Now it seems that though her bosses at the E! cable channel, which airs the show in the US and Britain, are putting on a brave face and insisting she will return, Liz has privately told friends she may want her character written out.
The second series might not have gone ahead at all if it weren't for the fact that it was commissioned before season one first hit our screens last month.
One critic likened the series to an 'extended MTV music video' and producers were also disappointed that Liz's star power doesn't appear to have lifted ratings, which sank to record lows last week.
However, an appearance by Joan Collins, playing the Queen's mother in an episode that will be shown tonight in the UK, is expected to help stir some interest.
For her part, Liz is said to be happy to go quietly should it come to it. Sources tell me she would have considered being on the panel for Britain's Got Talent this year if it wasn't for her commitments with The Royals.
Although I tried to speak to Liz, and got through to a spokeswoman, she didn't come back with a comment.
