The bathroom shelf snoopers: Four out of 10 women admit to rummaging through friends' cabinets to uncover intimate secrets about their health or love lives

  • Around 40% of women have peeked inside a friend's bathroom cabinet
  • One in 20 have been cheeky enough to take something for themselves
  • A third have looked inside a boyfriend's cabinet to see if they are cheating

It's furtive, nosy, and a little bit embarrassing – and more women have done it than you think.

A survey has revealed that four out of ten have snooped around a friend's bathroom cabinet.

And one in 20 has even been cheeky enough to take something from someone else's cupboard for her own use.

The study of 2,000 women, commissioned by bathroom brand Bloo, also found a third have peeked in a potential boyfriend's cabinet to search for female-related products – a sure sign of another woman on the scene.

Excuses given for snooping included working out how vain a potential partner is, finding out about someone else's beauty regime and looking for clues about their health or love life.

Unsurprisingly, the research also found that two-thirds of women would describe themselves as nosy.

Remarkably, one in twenty has been cheeky enough to take something from someone else's bathroom cabinet for their own use.

Meanwhile 75 per cent are convinced you can tell a lot about a person by the appearance of their bathroom.

Psychologist Jo Hemmings, who worked alongside Bloo on the research, commented: 'The bathroom is unique in our homes as it is quite personal, yet also relatively public.

'While we probably don't spend as much time in there as some of our other rooms, it nevertheless holds a lot of our 'secrets' and reveals a little more about our personalities.

'We feel that people will judge our general hygiene standards by the cleanliness of our bathrooms and of course it's also the one room where you can lock yourself away in someone else's home, providing the perfect opportunity to have a little peek into aspects of their lifestyle.'
