Vanessa Hudgens is barely recognizable as she runs errands in grungy outfit before getting glammed up for her Broadway show in NYC

Vanessa Hudgens proved she's a true style chameleon when she showed off two very different looks on Sunday.

The 26-year-old actress was low-key in an off-duty outfit for grocery shopping but hours later stepped out in a very stylish ensemble as she headed out to her matinee performance of Gigi: The Musical.

Looking oh-so-chic, the brunette beauty teamed black culottes with a striped cropped top and skyscraper stiletto heels.

With her headphones on and graphic hoodie spelling out "Brooklyn We Flow Hard", she's seemingly trying to blend in with other New Yorkers.

She covered her head in a big cap and pulled the peak down low, shading her face.

Vanessa listened to music as she walked and was pictured leaving the supermarket with several heavy shopping bags.

She treads the boards at the Neil Simon Theatre in her debut Broadway role as Gigi, a courtesan-in-training, alongside co-stars Victoria Clark as her grandmother Mamita and Corey Cott as Gaston Lachaille - her love interest.

Talking to the New York Times last month, the actress gushed of her return to theatre: 'Doing this has really changed my perspective and my work ethic. It just feels like there's a massive shift happening.'

'Once again finding myself on the stage, as I did when I was a little girl, makes me go: "Oh my God, this is what I want. This is what I want to keep doing."'

In an interview with The View, the ambitious actress revealed she had aspired to appear on Broadway since she was a teenager.

'I actually wrote a list when I was about 16-years-old of things that I had to do and being on Broadway was the first thing. And I always said if I did Broadway I would want my first time to be in something where I can kind of originate the role.

'And we've re-worked Gigi in a way that makes it more accessible for modern audiences, so in a way it's kind of my own original version of Gigi.'
