'Bruce told me it's better than winning an Olympic gold medal!': Laverne Cox reveals friend Jenner is pleased with success of transgender tell-all

No one quite knew how the world would react when Bruce Jenner told Diane Sawyer on Friday that he was transitioning into a woman in a bombshell interview.

But the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with high ratings and high fives from other celebrities.

And no one is happier about it than the 65-year-old E! star. While attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, his friend Laverne Cox told MSNBC, 'I told Bruce, "This is like another gold medal."' His reaction? The former Olympian replied, 'This is better than a gold medal.'

The 30-year-old actress then added, 'He's really pleased.'

Cox, who appeared on Time magazine’s cover The Transgender Tipping Point issue, had nothing but good things to say about the E! star.

'I think a lot of people tuned in expecting to see a spectacle, and they tuned in and saw a profoundly nuanced, complicated, beautiful human being,' the beauty said.

'I thought ABC handled it really beautifully.'

Another big win for Jenner: 'I told Bruce, "This is like another gold medal,"' said Cox. His reaction? The former Olympian replied, 'This is better than a gold medal'; here he is pictured with the medal in 1976

Turns out Bruce and Laverne know each other quite well.

'I had spoken to Bruce several months back,' she said.

'The same person who I spoke to on the phone, who really just loves their children so much and wants their family to be happy was the person I saw on television last night.'

But the star cautions against focusing too much on just one person.

'Bruce’s story is very specific,' she said.

'Most trans people don’t have that kind of privilege. At the end of the day, the visibility that I had last year and continue to have, didn’t save Blake Brockington from suicide, didn't save Leelah Alcorn from suicide, didn’t save the seven trans women who were murdered the first eight weeks of this year.

'So visibility matters, but structural change and policy change is what needs to happen so the lives of all trans people will be better.'

PageSix painted a different picture of Cox on Saturday, claiming she was tired of talking about Jenner. But they quoted her as saying, 'People's lives will be helped by this.'

Speaking in front of millions of viewers, including Kim Kardashian and her family, Bruce tearfully revealed: 'For all intents and purposes, I am a woman.

'My brain is much more female than it is male. That's what my soul is. Bruce lives a lie. She is not a lie.' He firmly added: 'I can't do it anymore.'

During the interview, Bruce also admitted that he has been regularly taking female hormones - and plans to completely transform into a woman.

But he said he was still attracted to females. 'I was never attracted to the guys,' he told Diane, explaining how he has always enjoyed a good sex life.

Jenner added: 'I am not gay.I am, as far as I know, heterosexual. As far as I know, I've never been with a guy. I've always been married, raising kids.'

And he denied that his revelations were for publicity purposes. Instead, he made them due to his inability to continue to 'pull the curtain', he said.

Indeed, hiding his identity was so painful for Bruce that it once left him contemplating suicide to escape from the never-ending scrutiny, he revealed.

Next up for Bruce is his own TV spinoff for E! that begins July 27. TMZ reported on Monday that his children will not be a part of the show.
