Cage Warriors 73: Ray vs Warburton Preview

by Ben Heather @benheather

On Saturday night Cage Warriors returns for it's first of two events in November, with Cage Warriors 73 taking place at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena.

Following the success of Super Saturday back in June it was recently announced that both Cage Warriors 73 and 74 will both be have two main cards.

Not only will two world titles be on the line but so will some of the best fighters in Europe. Its not everyday you will see an event which has guys like Ronnie Mann, Jimmy Wallhead, Brett Casswell and Matt Inman on the same card and none of them headline it. So now I will give you all a little preview and talk you through some of the great match ups that will be competed on Saturday night

Main Card Two

Stevie Ray 15-5 vs Curt Warburton 13-5
A five round battle for the Cage Warriors Lightweight title. This will be the third time that Curt Warburton and Stevie Ray have squared off and the previous two fights have both gone the distance, showing just how closely matched these world class fighters are.

The last time was in the main event of Cage Warriors 69 back in June where Stevie Ray won the title in a very close decision, so close in fact that for his first defence they will do it all over again. This fight will be very interesting as Curt has the home field advantage however, they both know that they can and have beat the other fighter.

Warburton has a number of notable wins in his career such as a win over Ross Pearson and three fights in the UFC. That being said Warburton really needs to get the win in this fight otherwise it might be a while before he gets another shot at the title as long as Stevie Ray is the champion.

Jimmy Wallhead 25-9 vs Juan Manuel Suarez 15-6
This is a fight between the two men that Danny Roberts, the current number one contender in the Cage Warriors 170lb division has defeated in his last two fights.

Wallhead returns to action after being knocked out back in May by Roberts while Suarez comes in to this fight on a two fight win streak since he last fought for Cage Warriors. If Wallhead is still serious about working his way back towards the Cage Warriors title then he really needs a win now as the Welterweight division is stacked and back to back losses could leave him a long journey to return to contention

Brett Casswell vs Marcin Lasota
This fight should decide who will go on to fight for the flyweight title next year, it is expected that the winner of this fight and the winner of the Haque vs Rooney fight will meet for the vacant Flyweight title. Casswell has a world class Judo game which he will be looking to use in this fight to control where he wants the fight to go.

Although he may not have it all his way as Lasota is a very good wrestler so may be able to prevent the take downs. I am expecting a very technical affair but one which will certainly entertain the crowd.

Matt Inman vs Lewis Long
This is by far the fight I am looking forward to the most, you have two of the best welterweights in the UK competing against each other.

On on side of the cage you have Matt Inman who not too long ago defeated Mohsen Bahari, who competes for the title in two weeks. Not only did he beat him he finished him in under a minute but last time out Inman was defeated to end a run of four straight victories.

The man standing the other side of the cage is Lew Long, possibly the most entertaining character in UK MMA who is the happiest man in the world when he is in the cage competing. Long recently jumped up a weight class where he feels healthier and in his first fight at welterweight finished Steve Dinsdale in Newport after being rocked badly in the first round but will now take a jump up in competition.

Shaj Haque vs Damien Rooney
Like the Casswell vs Lasota fight I expect the winner of this fight to go on and fight for the vacant title in the new year. Both men come in to this fight having won their last two fights each and will be looking to make it three on Saturday.

Haque will be wanting to come in to this fight and make a statement, his record of 5-1 is quite unique as every fight in his career has gone the distance but I am sure on Saturday night he will be wanting to get that finish. Rooney however comes in to the fight with eight finishes in his 10 professional fights and has proven he can finish the fight anywhere with various submission victories on his record as well as the ability to finish guys standing.

Stephen Martin vs Paddy Pimblett
Martin will be making his Cage Warriors debut on Saturday night and will be coming up against the young but very experienced Pimblett. Pimblett always looks to put on a show for the fans and is one of the most exciting young prospects in UK MMA. This is not a fight to miss.

Main Card One

Alex Enlund 10-2 vs Nad Narimani 7-1
In the main event of the first main card you have a fight which will finally see the first English Cage Warriors champion crowned in three years. It will also see a new champion crowned in the featherweight division since Jim Alers vacated the title when he left to join the UFC.
Alex Enlund comes in to the fight having never gone the distance picking up nine wins by submission and a TKO victory in his 10 wins.

Enlund who was last in action at Cage Warriors 65, comes in to this fight off the back of three wins in a row, all of which he has finished by rear naked choke. Nad Narimani also has had quite a break last fighting in February this year.

The Iron Mann fighters comes into the bout with back-to-back wins which like Enlund he has won both of these fights by Rear Naked Choke. Narimani last lost to former title contender Graham Turner in July last year. I am expecting a very close affair and it could come down to one mistake which will be snapped upon.

Moktar Benkaci vs Ronnie Mann
The return of Ronnie Mann, who has been out of action since May when he was submitted by Marcelo Costa in a fight I believe had he won he would have gone on to fight for the title.

Maktar Benkaci, who comes in to the fight riding a three fight win streak which ended a run of three straight losses, though he did fight guys such as James Brum and has never been finished. Mann has the opportunity here to put himself back in title contention and if he was to stop Benkaci he would really make a statement in Newcastle.

Leeroy Barnes vs Kyle Redfearn
Leeroy Barnes comes in to this fight having not won in his past four Cage Warriors fights since signing for them last year. Although to be fair to him he was on the wrong side of a very close decision against Norman Paraisy but since then he has been finished in the first round in all three fights. Last time out he had arguably his toughest opponent in recent times as he faced off against Che Mills and although the fight didn't go his way he certainly showed a lot of heart to stay in the fight as long as he did.

This could be do or die for Leeroy but I feel he is fighting a guy he has a much better chance of winning but must not get complacent as his opponent Redfearn has KO power in his hands. I do not see this fight going the distance.

Liam James vs Dean Trueman
James, who hasn't fought in nearly a year will be making his return in his home city and will be looking to get back to winning ways after being finished quickly last time out by Ian Entwistle. Trueman will be making his Cage Warriors debut and looking to make it three wins in a row but will be taking a step up in competition and we will find out on Saturday if the 25 year old can hang at this level.

Ellis Hampson 3-1-0-1N/C vs Lewis Monarch 3-0
Hampson will be coming in to this fight after making his Cage Warriors debut in his last fight, unfortunately for him that fight didn't go his way being submitted by Azi Thomas. That loss is the only loss on Hampson's record and he will be looking to get his first Cage Warriors victory second time around.

Monarch comes in to the fight undefeated and will be looking to continue his impressive start to his career where he has finished every fight in the first round by TKO.

Jimi Manuwa Out With a Broken Foot. Ovince St. Preux will now Step in to Fight Shogun Rua

Jimi Manuwa out with a broken foot. Ovince St. Preux will now step in to fight Shogun Rua

by Chris Houten - @mrhouts

Jimi Manuwa is out of UFC Fight 56 with a broken foot. Ovince St. Preux, who had been scheduled to take on Francimar Barroso in the co-main event will now step in on a weeks notice to replace the injured Brit in next weeks main event taking on Shogun Rua. UFC president Dana White announced the injury and subsequent replacement via twitter earlier today:

UFC Fight Night 56 takes place Nov. 8 at Ginasio Municipal Tancredo Nevas in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The event will broadcast live on BT Sports in the UK and Fox Sports in US following Fight Pass prelims.

Looking to bounce back from the first loss of his career, when he was defeated by Alexander Gustafsson at UFC Fight Night 37 in March, Manuwa was set to fight for the first time outside of the UK, taking on Pride legend Shogun Rua in the main event at UFC Fight Night 56. The British striker will now have to wait longer for a chance to get back in the win column with it not yet know how long the former UCMMA champion will be out of action.

His opponent Rua, himself looking to bounce back for a loss in his last fight, where he was knocked out in brutal fashion by Dan Henderson will now face former Strikeforce challenger Ovince St. Preux, who was expected to face Francimar Barroso in evenings co-main event.

Former UFC Light-Heavyweight champion Rua, represent a huge step up in class for Preux from his original opponent Barroso, as he looks to return to winning ways following a loss in his last fight to Ryan Bader. Prior to the loss to Bader, St. Preux was on a 4 fight win streak in the UFC including finishes over Ryan Jimmo, Nikkita, Krylov, and Cody Donovan. It is not yet know if Fancimar Barroso will still feature on the card.

With the addition of Rua vs St. Preux, UFC Fight 56 now features:

Main Card
Mauricio Rua vs. Ovince St. Preux
TBA vs. Francimar Barroso
Ian McCall vs. John Lineker
Warlley Alves vs. Alan Jouban

Cage Warriors 73 Media Roundtable

by Andreas Georgiou - @AGeorgiouMMA

Cage Warriors
This weekend's Cage Warriors 73 is arguably set to be the biggest North East UKMMA show ever. With two world title fights, as well as numerous undercard fights which could headline an event in their own right, the Newcastle fans will be in for a treat on November 1. Steven Ray defends his lightweight belt against Curt Warburton in a trilogy fight, and Alex Enlund clashes with Nad Narimani for the vacant featherweight title.

We asked three of Kingdom MMA's finest for their opinions on the event:

In what way does the home field advantage help Curt Warburton against Steven Ray?
Ben Heather: Having the home support will be crucial for Curt on Saturday. I do expect a lot of Scots to make the trip though so I can't see it being a totally one sided crowd. The other thing to factor in is that the first time they fought, when Curt won it was in the same arena and that may also come into play for Curt Warburton.

Chris Houten: I have never personally had the pleasure of attending a fight in Newcastle, however I have meet several Geordies in my time and I expect the fans up there to be on point by the time Ray vs Wartburton rolls around.

Having spoken to a lot of fighters in my time, many often speak about how they don't even notice the crowd when they get in there, and from what I've seen the ones that do are usually the ones who get encouraged into wild exchanges.

Warburton and Ray are both professionals and I genuinely don't think the crowd will have much of an effect on the fight - a positive effect for Warburton and an adverse effect for Ray. I was in attendance for their last fight too and if the amount of Scots in London were anything to go by, I don't think the home field advantage will even be that great.

Alex Dillon: I'd have to say not an awful lot! I imagine Ray will take a good following down from Scotland seeing as it's not too far away from Newcastle, it's not like he's fighting a guy in a different country for me.

Will it be Alex Enlund or Nad Narimani who becomes the first English Cage Warriors champion in three years?
Ben: Yes, obviously what ever happens we will end up with our first English Cage Warriors champion since Danny Batten (Featherweight), but I think Alex has the better game at this stage in his career and I believe that he will finish Nad in Newcastle.

Chris: I think the fact that Cage Warriors has not had an English champion in three years shows just how international the promotion has become.

Alex Enlund enters the fight on Saturday and with good reason having finished all 10 of his opponents to date, which includes an impressive run of three first round submissions on route to his title shot with Narimani. Enlund is a star. His jiu-jitsu wizardary might be too much for anyone in the 145lb at this point.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not automatically ruling Nad Narimani out, Narimani is coming off an impressive run of two first round submissions himself. I’ just making the point that it certainly feels like this is Alex Enlund’s fight to lose.

Alex: Yeah I think Enlund takes it, he's been on a tear.

Haque vs Rooney or Casswell vs Lasota, which two fighters will advance to face off for the belt next year?
Ben: I really can't pick who will win the Haque vs Rooney fight, it's such a great match-up and either man could end the night with their arm raised but if I have to pick one it would be Haque. I think Casswell will win the other fight. He has such a high level judo game which will cause a lot of problems for most fighters in the division.

Chris: I have great regard for Brett Caswell, he comes from a ridiculous high level judo background and if he can get his hands right he could be easily be the best prospect the UK has at 125lb. He's a guy all UK MMA fans should be excited about. That said Lasota is no easy task with great wrestling and a solid ground. Listening to Connor Hutton's interview Caswell earlier in the week though, I genuinely feel this he should be able to control the fight, take Lasota down at will, and grind out a clear-cut decision.

Haque vs Rooney is a great fight with either man able to win. Haque has shown he has solid wrestling throughout his Cage Warriors career but also showed in his last fight with Martin McDonough that he he can stand with a good striker and has the ability to really push the pace for 15 minutes. His opponent Rooney has shown he has a solid ground game picking up a number of impressive submissions in his career and definitely have the ability to catch Haque, at any stage, where Haque has struggled to finished fights thus far in his career.

I like Haque to winning potentially setting up a title fight with Caswell in the new year, but I wouldn’t count Rooney out either.

Alex: Rooney and Caswell, I actually put Rooney in my top five Irish fighters the UFC could sign within the next year and i'll stick with that, he's an exceptional finisher and probably the best in the division for me.

Is it game over for Leeroy Barnes if he loses to Kyle Redfearn?
Ben: I expected Cage Warriors and Leeroy to have parted company after his last loss. That being said, to be fair to Leeroy that loss was against by far the hardest opponent he has faced since joining Cage Warriors and he showed great heart to carry on for so long in the state he was. So based on that last fight I think he deserves one last shot. A loss to Redfearn will make it 0-5 for Cage Warriors and surely will be the end for his time with the promotion, and maybe even his career in MMA.

Chris: Leeroy Barnes is a promoter's dream, he's got a loud mouth, a huge social media presence, he's not a bad looking lad, and to his credit he will fight anyone. I genuinely believe if Leeroy Barnes was a better fighter he has the total package to be a huge star.

If Barnes was to loss on Saturday to Redfearn, I personally would want to see him fighting for Cage Warriors again under his current run of form. He certainly wouldn't be game over for Barnes if he were to loss to Redfearn with the likes of Made 4 the Cage, and FCC providing an excellent stage for Barnes to continue his career and build back up toward the big stage, a stage his personality justifies, it's just his skills in the cage that let him down.

Alex: He's lost his last four fights (all on CW) 3 of which were finishes so really if he doesn't turn it around against Kyle Redfearn surely its the end for him. I know he signed a new deal recently but something has to give. In fairness I've always thought he belongs at welterweight and not middleweight anyway.

Now you have heard what we all think, let us know your thoughts below.

Regis Sugden signs for BAMMA, debuts against Ben Dearden at BAMMA 17

By Alex Dillon @ADillon_

BAMMA have announced the signing of K1 standout Regis "The First" Sugden on a long term deal.  He faces Ben "The Handyman" Dearden in a Bantamweight bout at the BAMMA 17 prelims at the Victoria Warehouse, Manchester on 6th December. Both fighters will be making their pro debuts.

Tickets are available here

Regis "The First" Sugden Vs. Ben "The Handyman" Dearden (Bantamweight)

Regis "The First" Sugden is already known as one of the country’s most explosive stand up fighters, with a 50 per cent knock out record as a professional K-1 kickboxer.  Regis has been honing his MMA skills alongside some of the best in the business, such as World No Gi Jiu-Jitsu Bronze medallist Ranjeet Bara and Suggy’s Gym-based international wrestling coach Krzysiek Adamczyk.

After his latest victory, in Newark earlier this month, he was described by BAMMA commentator Malcolm Martin as possibly the most exciting prospect in what has become the fast growing sport in the last decade.

Regis himself had the following to say:

"Signing with BAMMA the UK's biggest MMA promotion is amazing I cant wait to showcase my skills on the big stage."

Ben "The Handyman" Dearden is also making his pro debut at BAMMA 17.  Previously Ben has competed on BAMMA Fight Night: Pascu Vs. Chadwick, where he submitted James Reece via 2nd round armbar.  Fighting out of the HAMMA in St. Helens, Merseyside.  Ben had the following to say:

"I'm going to drag him into deep water and see if he can swim!  Diversity is the tool of Champions"

Jude Samuel BAMMA Matchmaker commented:

"I’m extremely excited by BAMMA's acquisition of Regis Sugden. The Sugden family has a deep history in combat sports and, with Regis heading into the world of MMA, there are exciting times ahead for UK Mixed Martial Arts.  We know that he will make a massive impact in the sport, as his brother Chad has in the world of K1.  These are exciting times for BAMMA.  However that being said Ben Dearden brings a big test for the debutant and is hungry for the challenge that lays ahead on BAMMA."

Audio: Jimmy Wallhead eager to rebound against Juan Manuel Suarez at Cage Warriors 73

By Connor Hutton - @ConnorHutton94

Copyright: Cage Warriors | Dolly Clew (www.dollyclew.com)
Jimmy Wallhead (25-9) feels he is in a good place as he prepares to make a run at the Welterweight belt, his first stepping stone to glory comes against Juan Manuel Suarez (15-6) at Cage Warriors 73, which takes place November 1st at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.

Wallhead's Cage Warriors comeback provided a rather disappointing shock when he was finished by Danny Roberts at CWFC 68, something that hadn't happened for nearly eight years, however he is fully aware that MMA is based on short-term memory, Wallhead said: "It's not the greatest start to my Cage Warriors comeback but I know if I put a few more wins together it will soon be forgotten, it is what it is.

"I've used it to make myself work harder and get better, it's in the past now and i'll just move forward."

Following a lot of early success in his career, 'Judo' Jimmy believes he has ran into some bad luck over the past few years, but now is the time to move forward, he stated: "I think I've just been unlucky, I plateaued a little bit for a few years, but I feel like right now that I'm back at the beginning of my career.

"After 10 years fighting as a pro I genuinely feel like this a kickstart, I'm happy to be in the gym again, maybe I lost the hunger and weren't being pushed, but I've found that again now."

You can listen to the entire interview right here, Wallhead talks more about the difficulties throughout his career, his upcoming fight with Suarez and his hopes of a Welterweight championship bout.

Who will Paul Daley face upon his Bellator return? All will be revealed at Bellator 131

by Ben Heather @benheather

Credit: BAMMA

Paul Daley today revealed on his Facebook account that he now knows when, where and who he will be fighting when he makes his Bellator return.
"Got a fight date.....won't be until 2015, but at least I know for sure who, where AND when. The rest of you will find out Nov 15th, @ Bellator, Tito Ortiz vs Stephen Bonner. When its due to be announced. ;-)"
Daley (35-13-2 MMA) was last seen in an MMA fight at BAMMA 16 where he showcased his skills as he finished Marinho Moreira da Rocha in the second round to make it back to back wins on his BAMMA return. Since then he has focused on his kickboxing and won his K1 debut in Thailand scoring a unanimous decision over Mohammad Ghaedibardeh to take his kickboxing record to 20-3.

Unfortunately for fans of "Semtex" his next fight will not be until next year but it will be revealed on November 15th, until then we can all speculate who he will be facing off against? Let us know in the comments section below who you think he should face on his Bellator return.

Audio: Brett Caswell ready for 'number one contender' fight against Marcin Lasota at Cage Warriors 73

by Connor Hutton - @ConnorHutton94

Brett Caswell (5-1) believes his opponent Marcin Lasota (8-0) will be running into a world of trouble when they meet at Cage Warriors 73, November 1st at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.

The Gym01 fighter rebounded from his first ever professional loss in style when he submitted Spencer Hewitt back at Cage Warriors 69, improving his CWFC record to 2-0. Now he faces his toughest test to date when he squares off against the undefeated Lasota.

Caswell asked for this fight as he knows a win pushes him one step closer to a shot at the vacant Flyweight title, he said: "Getting a win over Marcin Lasota will push me right up to the top five or six in the UK and hopefully into the top 10 in Europe and get me on the next Cage Warriors title fight."

Another bout on this card that will have a heavy impact on the Flyweight title picture comes in Shaj Haque against Damien Rooney, and Caswell was complimentary of both men: "The winner out of both these fights will undoubtedly fight for the vacant title. I think that Shaj has got very good cardio, he's got good striking but I think he lacks the power element.

He added: "Damien Rooney's ground game is very good as well. I think the way that fight plays out will be Damien Rooney maybe picking up the submission win or if it goes to decision I think Shaj takes it just through outworking."

You can listen to the entire interview right here, Caswell talks more about his upcoming fight with Lasota, recovering from his first defeat and his rode to a potential title shot.

Alex Enlund looks to complete ‘personal journey’ with Featherweight title win at Cage Warriors 73

by Andreas Georgiou - @AGeorgiouMMA

Copyright: Cage Warriors | Dolly Clew (www.dollyclew.com)
The North East fighter admitted there was ‘no extra pressure’ fighting in Newcastle, as he prepares to meet Nad Narimani at Cage Warriors 73, November 1.

“I can’t wait for this, this is like everything I've been working towards so far. This was one of my goals to have that belt just to show everyone I’m the best featherweight in Cage Warriors. It just puts that physical stamp on all the work I do in the gym.”

Narimani, despite a close split decision to Graham Turner at Cage Warriors 56, holds a near perfect record of 7-1. Enlund endorsed his opponent as an admirable challenge but rebuked his chances:  “Nad's good, I've seen a lot of his fights. He’s solid everywhere, he’s very well rounded as far as an MMA fighter goes.

“He’s fought some good guys, but I don’t think he’s fought someone whose as good as I am. I think I’m a difficult fight for him to prepare for and what his game plans going to be.

“He doesn't have that one shot power like guys who I've fought in the past who has knockouts on their records rather than TKOs.”

Enlund, fights out of NEVT, and trains with some of the best grapplers in the North East. With nine submission wins on his record; out of 10 fights, he is ‘super confident’ about his grappling ability: “I really believe in my jiu-jitsu and my skills set, and I think it’s good enough to make me Cage Warriors champion for a long time.”

He added: “I don’t see grappling wise that he’s anywhere near as good as me, and I don’t feel like he’s as dangerous as me.”

The South Shields based fighter insisted there is ‘no extra pressure’ fighting in front of his own fans, and ratified the effect the crowd may have on the fight.

“It will be really nice, I fought in Newcastle last December and it was overwhelming having so many people there to support us. It’s nice to fight in my backyard against a good opponent and have the crowd willing us on, cheering when I win the world title in front of my friends and family.”

Enlund also ratified how tough the 145lb division is: “The featherweight division is really stacked, regardless [of the result] there is tough fights that will come after this.

“I have five more fights, I just signed a new Cage Warriors contract before this fight. I do this to test myself, to test my skills on regular basis. I do it to win and to be a competitor, regardless of the result of this fight I want hard fights. I've never turned down a fight and I never will.”

In mixed martial arts, you often come across fighters who are solely focused on the journey, achieving the light at the end of the tunnel and beyond, creating a legacy: “Every fight I've grown a little bit, as a person physically and mentality I thought I've improved in each fight. I've started to develop a belief in myself again.

“One of the things I really want to do is defend that belt enough so that I get to keep it, so I can show it to my kids and grandkids when I’m older.

“He doesn't really matter, he’s only the opponent, this is my own journey and this is about me, it’s not about him.”

UFC 179 main card review: Jose Aldo retains, Phil Davis calls out GOAT and Fabio Maldonado embraced

by Andreas Georgiou - @AGeorgiouMMA

Credit UFC
In what was described as the 'greatest featherweight fight in the history of the UFC' by president Dana White, Jose Aldo silenced the doubters after five round war with Chad Mendes.

A lot of MMA fans were complaining about the event being 'too weak' for pay per view, and they possibly had a point, but the main event offset any doubt that Aldo and Mendes was PPV worth. After 25 minutes of back and forth mayhem, the judges awarded the decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) to the Brazilian hero, however in every sense of the imagination, the world knew that Aldo had just faced the toughest test of his career.

Undefeated since 2009, "Scarface" has beaten everyone the UFC has placed in front of him with definitive rainbows and the scorecard does no justice to how valiantly Mendes fought, and in fact that no one would argue if the decision went the way of the American.

Forget the eye gauges, punches after the end of the round, the fight may have had a few flaws however the technical showcase both men put on showed why the Featherweight division is one of the most entertaining weight classes in the promotion. Mendes may be 0-2 against Aldo, but you wouldn't hear a complaint from me if these two met again somewhere down the line.

After the fight the champion seemed to take shot at Conor McGregor, who had been talking a lot of smack talk about both himself and opponent Mendes. Aldo said: "I'm the king, Chad's the prince, now we have a joker."

With McGregor scheduled to face Dennis Siver on January 18,2015 in Boston, White shot down any talk about the potential fight at the post-fight press conference, but all but confirmed that should the Irishman get past Siver, then he will be next in line for a title shot.

Dubbed the "Brazilian killer" by the South American media, Phil Davis scored a huge win over former title contender Glover Teixeira, beating the Brazilian by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27). After being dominated by returning light-heavyweight Anthony Johnson, this win helps the former NCAA Division I wrestler forget his last hiccup as he continues his impressive run against Brazilian fighters.

Davis used his wrestling to grind out the victory, and adds Teixeira to the list of Brazilians he already has on his CV. Lyoto Machida, and AntĂ´nio RogĂ©rio Nogueira just to name a few. However, the Alliance MMA member still has one more name to add to the list, as he called out the greatest of all time, Anderson Silva proceeding the bout, to which the legend managed to let out a small chuckle.

Fabio Maldonado weathered an early storm from Hans Stringer to finish the Dutchman in the second round. Stringer dominated the Brazilian on the ground during the first round, but Maldonado rallied and pummelled Stringer on the ground until referee Marc Goddard was forced to stop the fight.

Maldonado was then embraced by "The Spider" as both men came to peace with each other after the 34-year old apologies for some statements he said about Silva in the press.

Also on the main card, Darren Elkins returned to winning ways with a split decision win over Lucas Martins, and Beneil Dariush; Kings MMA, put the first blemish on Carlos Diego Ferreira's professional career.

UFC 179: Aldo vs Mendes II Main card Preview

By Alex Dillon @ADillon_

UFC 179 Aldo vs Mendes II takes place this Saturday from Ginasio do Maracanazinho in Rio De Janerio, Brazil. The main event for the featherweight title is a rematch of the UFC 142 main event which saw Jose Aldo TKO Chad Mendes with a brutal knee in the 1st round of an event which also took place in Rio De Janerio, Brazil.

Other bouts on the evening include a light heavyweight showdown in the co-main event slot between Glover Teixeria and Phil Davis whilst Fabio Maldonado squares off against Hans Stringer.

Jose Aldo (c) (24-1) vs Chad Mendes (16-1)
Back at UFC 142, some believed Chad Mendes had one attribute which could be used to dethrone Aldo and win the featherweight belt, his wrestling. Aldo would successfully thwart a takedown attempt and counter another into a brutal knee which ended the challenge of Mendes deep in the first round of the contest. Fast forward to Saturday’s main event and Mendes has re built himself by KO’ing fighters such as Clay Guida and Darren Elkins to earn himself another shot at Aldo’s belt. The champion Aldo has had two lackluster decisions and a TKO to an injured Korean Zombie since defeating Mendes. You could attribute Aldo’s lackluster performances to his awful weight cut before each fight which really symbols that he should move up and fight at 155. Mendes now has refine KO power thanks to Duane Ludwig but really his wrestling is still his biggest asset coming into this clash. If he lasts past round three it would give him a better chance of winning as Aldo notoriously slows down in the later rounds which opponents can never seem to capitalize on. One thing’s for sure, come Saturday night it will be once again the battle of wrestler vs striker. The big questions are has Chad Mendes improved enough since last time and has Aldo still got it at 145?

Phil Davis (12-2) vs Glover Teixeira (22-3)
This light heavyweight showdown pits two fighters that essentially fall at the final hurdle. Davis has by far the best wrestling in the division but never seems to have a plan B if the Rumble Johnson and Rashad Evans fights are anything to go by. Glover has indeed finished many on his UFC stint but also leaves himself open to being caught. His title match against Jon Jones had lots of promise going in but ultimately, he disappointed and in turn was dominated by the champion. One would suggest that if Davis can get this fight to the ground it’s his fight to lose even with Glover sub expertise Davis also has submissions in his arsenal. If Glover can defend the takedowns then Davis could be in for a rough night.

Fabio Maldonado (21-7) vs Hans Stringer (22-5-3)
Before his late step in against Stipe Miocic, Maldonado was on a 3 fight winning streak (all coming via decision) in the light heavyweight division. Opponent Hans Stringer is currently 1-0 in the UFC as he picked up the split decision victory against Francimar Barroso this past March. Fabio Maldonado is well known for being able to absorb punishment in large quantities and the former pro boxer will be looking to finish Stringer in this one for sure. With both fighters being durable this one could go either way however and possibly the full 3 rounds.

Lucas Martins (15-1) vs Darren Elkins (17-4)
Since his TKO (retirement) loss to Edson Barboza back in 2013, featherweight sensation Lucas Martins has been on a tear. He is currently on a 3 fight winning streak with all coming by finish. Elkins has had different fortunes, losing to Jeremy Stephens and Chad Mendes in two of his last three bouts. Martins, is highly regarded in the featherweight ranks and he should continue his run Saturday night against Elkins.

Carlos Diego Ferreira (11-0) vs Beneil Dariush (8-1)
This lightweight bout was originally meant to be Alan Patrick vs Beneil Dariush before Patrick pulled out with a horrific broken jaw suffered in training so the undefeated Ferreira stepped in.  Ferreira and Dariush are both known for their submission expertise so don’t be surprised if this one goes to the ground come fight night. Interestingly enough coming into this scrap they have both faced the same opponent before in the UFC, Ramsey Nijem. Ferreira defeated Nijem where as Dariush lost to him. The winner of this bout arguably goes onto bigger things judging by the calibre of fighters they have already faced.

Kountermove predictions for our UFC 179 tournament

Check out how to join our Kountermove "pick 'em" tournament for UFC 179

By Connor Hutton - @ConnorHutton94

Kingdom MMA brings you its latest Kountermove tournament this weekend, but for any newcomers who have a few questions, here is the essential information. Kountermove is simply fantasy MMA, pick a team of fighters who you think will win and your chosen fighters are awarded points based on strikes, takedowns and rounds won etc.

You can join our Kountermove tournament for UFC 179 and be in with a chance to win $25 right here: http://www.kountermove.com/join/33613-kingdommmas-ufc-179-free-fantasy-mma-game-on-ufc-179-aldo-vs-mendes-2-T-free/

If you want to win a bit of money but you need some guidance then take a look at Kingdom MMA’s predictions, our ‘favourite five’ below, a few fighters who you may fancy picking.

1. Chad Mendes - ($4600) 'Money' Mendes (16-1) finally gets the chance to avenge his only loss to Jose Aldo (24-1) as he continues his quest for the featherweight title. The Team Alpha Male fighter rides a five-fight winning streak since his defeat to Aldo at UFC 142, four of which coming via TKO. Whereas the champion Aldo will be the favourite to extend his now nine year unbeaten run inside the cage.

The result of the first battle was smeared with controversy after Aldo illegally grabbed the cage to prevent a takedown, inadvertently leading to the flash KO. This time round Aldo has a whole new world of problems to deal with, if Mendes' freakishly athletic wrestling ability doesn't grind out a win, then he is more than capable of ending the fight on his feet at any moment with his vastly improved striking. For the first time in years there is a strong feeling of uncertainly around a usually dominant Aldo and for the cheap price of $4600 you could be in for a bargain with Chad Mendes on your Kountermove team.

2. Phil Davis - ($4200) The co-main event of the evening holds a heavy impact on the future of the light heavyweight division as both men attempt to rebound from damaging defeats. Phil Davis (12-2-1) looks to erase the hiccup against Anthony Johnson when he takes on Glover Teixeira (22-3). The Brazilian most recently tasted defeat for the first time in nine years when he was on the wrong end of a decision loss against the champ Jon Jones back in April.

The key to success for 'Mr. Wonderful' is undoubtedly his wrestling ability, in Glover's title challenge the general expectation was that Jones would impose his takedown skills, but we saw quite the opposite. If Davis can close the distance with the high level wrestling he is capable of and land some ground and pound, he could edge his way back into the title picture. Lets not forget, it was Davis who handed Alexander Gustafsson his first loss, not to mention a stand out victory over Lyoto Machida. The American is certainly capable of delivering the goods and he will no doubt deliver you a solid points return for great value.

3. Carlos Diego Ferreira - ($5400) Former Legacy FC lightweight champion Ferreira (11-0) has made a perfect start to his UFC career since he was signed back in May, with two finishes and two post-fight bonuses, most recently a knockout triumph over Ramsey Nijem. Whilst his opponent Beneil Dariush (8-1) recovered from his first professional loss earlier this year with an arm-triangle choke against Tony Martin.

The Brazilian is a sizeable favourite going into the fight and for good reason, Ferreira's 2nd degree jiu-jitsu black belt has handed him six submission victories, three of which coming in the first round. However Dariush will be a stern test with five sub wins on his own record, yet the undefeated man is considered to be a level to high for the Iranian. Ferreira is more than capable of scoring big points with a finish and should certainly be considered for your Kountermove team.

4. Neil Magny - ($5300) Heading up the Fox Sports 1 card is a welterweight bout between the ever improving Neil Magny (12-3) and Brazilian prospect William 'Daffy Duck' Macario (7-1). Magny has rebounded from a disappointing start to his UFC career where he went 1-2 before embarking on a four-fight win streak, whereas Macario is fresh off his first win in the UFC after losing the finale of TUF: Brazil 2.

The criticism that some UFC fighters suffer is accusations of inactivity, but in Magny's case we see the complete opposite as he approaches his fifth fight of 2014. Three dominant decisions and a TKO victory against Rodrigo de Lima have put him in good stead for yet another win. Magny is the undeniable favourite considering his top level experience and his proven durability will offer up plenty of points across all three rounds.

5. Lucas Martins - ($5100) Knockout artist Lucas 'Miniero' Martins (15-1) continues his run through the featherweight division against Darren 'The Damage' Elkins (17-4) at the Mini Maracana. Martins currently rides a three-fight win streak, most recently picking up a third-round KO against Alex White. However Elkins will attempt to escape his current dip in form which has seen him go 1-2 in his last three fights, including a decision loss to Jeremy Stephens back in January.

An outstanding 14 of Martins' 15 victories have come inside the distance, with an even more impressive 10 KO's to his resume. Elkins may carry more UFC experience but it is Martins who storms into this fight with the momentum. Expect big points from potentially big finish when the hometown favourite steps into the cage, an easy choice to round off your Kountermove team.

So don’t forget to join in with UFC 179 in our exclusive Kountermove tournament:

UFC 179 Aldo vs Mendes 2 Betting Tips

by Will Martin @BIGBILBAR7MMA

After a much needed three week break the UFC returns and Brazil's very own Featherweight champion Jose Aldo will attempt to defend his title for a seventh time in a rematch against the number one contender and Team Alpha Male standout Chad "Money" Mendes. So I'm back to give you a bit of guidance and some bets which I am confident will come in.

Note, these tips are for guidance only. Please bet sensibly and only if you can afford to lose - I will not be held responsible, if you lose you house, wife, dignity or self respect.

Bet 1

A £5 stake will pay back approximately £56

Gilbert Burns 2/7
Fabricio Camoes 4/5
Andre Fili 5/6
Diego Ferreira 8/15
Fabio Maldonado 8/11

This parlay has a particularly Brazilian theme to it, apart from Andre Fili and it pays a nice profit too. First up is a fighter I have huge hopes for in the future and that is Gilbert Burns. A former world champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu who's striking skills are coming up to par with his ground skills. A drop down to his natural weight class will see dividends here as he should beat UFC debutant and former RFA Lightweight champion Christos Giagos, but keep your eyes on Giagos in the future as he will beat top competition within his stint in the UFC.

Up next we have Fabricio Camoes who returns to fight in his native homeland for the first time in over eight years and may appreciate the drop down in competition. The third degree BJJ black belt under Royler Gracie has faced stiff opposition in his four previous fights within the organisation with losses to Jim Miller and Melvin Guillard. However, he now faces Tony Martin who to me is not UFC quality at all and is coming of two losses himself and a loss here should see him receive the pink slip. In Martin's last fight he gassed badly against Beneil Dariush and I think he will get caught in a submission inside two rounds.

Rolling into Rio is Team Alpha Male's Andre Fili who is looking to get back in the win column as he faces Felipe Arantes in a featherweight clash. Fili who has a very aggressive striking style matched with a ever improving ground game looks to take the fight to Arantes in a match up I think could be a sleeper for fight of the night. Both guys love to excite the crowd and come forward but when this happens I expect Fili to get the better shots off because of his better movement and hurt Arantes in the process. This will be a back and forth affair but in the end I like Fili by decision.

In this next match up we have two fighters who have been very active this year as Diego Ferriera looks to keep his unbeaten record against Beneil Dariush. This will be Ferriera's third fight in four months and in his previous two fights he has looked impeccable stopping his foes by TKO and Submission. Dariush is coming off a nice finish but it was only after Tony Martin gassed badly he got the stoppage. In a match up of two BJJ black belts I think Ferriera is the better grappler and when he takes the fight to the ground he will finish the fight from there. Also keep in mind that Dariush has been knocked out with one punch before and I believe Ferriera has the potential to do this again but I think he will win by submission here.

Last up is light heavyweight slugger Fabio Maldonado as he faces Dutchmen Hans Stringer in a fight which I think will finish in a stoppage. Maldonado will be returning to his natural weight class after an unsuccessful journey to the big hitting Heavyweight division to face Stipe Miocic, which ended in a quick knockout. However, in his real division Fabio is on a three fight win streak all of which have been via decision. Maldonado's Strengths lie within his technical boxing and ever dependable chin. His game plan will be to get Stringer against the cage and unload from there and I expect him to do this later on in the fight.

Bet 2

William Macario 15/8
Lucas Martins 5/4
Jose Aldo 2/5

This right here is a bet I really like and have already got money on myself. It has two great looking underdogs with a firm favourite in the Champion Jose Aldo.

William "Patolino" Macario returns to the octagon, against in my opinion 2014's most improved fighter in Neil Magny in a welterweight bout. Macario is coming off a dominant performance against Bobby Voelker in which he looked like the star he did on the TUF Brazil show. A fighter who plants his feet and throws with solid power but he has to get inside Magny's long reach if he wants to be successful. Magny is coming off four straight wins in 2014 and has shown improvements everywhere within his game. His August victory over Alex Garcia showed his vast improvements but I think this is a fight too much for him and Macario should get the decision victory.

In the Martins/Elkins match up if Martins can stop Elkins aggressive takedown attempts he will finish this fight late on in my opinion but you can never take an opponent like Elkins lightly who works for everything. However, I see a Martins finish here. In the main event I like Jose Aldo even though I think his days are numbered as champion. I don't see the improvements in Mendes game to take the belt away from him and Aldo can finish him at any time but in my opinion he more likely takes a decisive decision here.

Some nice little bets to keep an eye on are:

Diego Ferriera via Sub 4/1
Phil Davies via Points 10/3
Yan Cabral via KO 11/2

So that was a few bets I like, I wish you all the best with any bets you put on. Good luck!

Conor McGregor vs Dennis Siver to headline UFC Fight Night in Boston, Jan.18

By Alex Dillon @ADillon_

It looks like Conor McGregor will have to wait for his title shot after all.

It was first reported on Thursday that the popular featherweight was in line to face Dennis Siver for a Fight Night in Boston, Massachusetts. The UFC have now made it official as McGregor and Siver will square off in a five-round main event at the TD Garden on Jan. 18.

It will be the second headlining spot in 4 months for McGregor, who first headlined against Brazilian Diego Brandao in his native Dublin, Ireland, this past July at UFC Fight Night 46. McGregor is coming off the most impressive performance of his career after wiping out Dustin Poirier via TKO in the first round back at UFC 178 in September. He has gone 4-0 in the UFC since debuting against Marcus Brimage in 2013 at UFC Stockholm.

With McGregor in Brazil this weekend for UFC 179, which is headlined by Chad Mendes and Jose Aldo for the featherweight title, there had been increased speculation that he might be in line to face the winner. Instead he'll return to Boston, where he defeated Max Holloway via decision back in August 2013 for the inaugural FOX Sports 1 event.

In facing Siver, McGregor will come up against the most experienced fighter he's faced in the UFC.
Siver is currently 11-6-1 in the UFC and has won seven of his last ten fights. With his most recent victory coming over Charles Rosa via Unanimous decision at UFC FIght Night 53 in Stockholm, Sweden.

This bout may not come as a surprise to many as the two ranked featherweights went back and forth over social media after Siver’s victory.

UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver will air on FOX Sports 1.

Swedish UFC fighter Tor Troeng retires from MMA

By Alex Dillon @ADillon_

Credit :BT Sport

Swedish fighter Tor Troeng has decided to call it quits on his MMA career and hang up his gloves.

The TUF 17 vet, who is currently on a three-fight losing streak, took to Facebook page on Wednesday evening to announce the decision.

“After almost 10 years as a professional MMA fighter, it’s time for me to move on,” Troeng stated in his native Swedish. “I have decided to put the gloves on the shelf. The joy and motivation needed to perform at the highest level is no longer with me.

“I love MMA. MMA has given me many memorable moments, hard training, meetings with amazing people, and above all a lot of joy.”

After starting his career in Europe and amassing 11 stoppages along the way, Troeng got his shot in the UFC via Season 17 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” where he fought under coach Chael Sonnen after a submission win over Scott Rosa to get into the house.

In his first fight in the house, he was knocked out by Josh Samman. Still, he got his chance in the UFC and at UFC on FUEL TV 9, he submitted Adam Cella in front of his home fans in Sweden.

Since then, he has dropped 3 unanimous decisions in a row, first was a “Fight of the Night” winner against Rafael Natal in 2013 then after a layoff of about 10 months, he returned in July for UFC Dublin but was outpointed by Trevor Smith. Earlier this month in Stockholm, he dropped a decision to Krzysztof Jotko in what will be his final bout.

After the loss to Jotko, Troeng did seem to contemplate fighting again in his post fight interview so it may not come as a surprise to many.

Audio: Lewis Long looks to prove himself against Matt Inman at Cage Warriors 73

 by Andreas Georgiou - @AGeorgiouMMA

Lewis Long (8-3) revealed his admiration for opponent Matt Inman (13-6) ahead of their welterweight clash at Cage Warriors 73, November 1st at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle, in this exclusive interview with Kingdom MMA.

The Mat Academy man will make his second appearance at welterweight, after an impressive 170lb debut against Steve Dinsdale at Cage Warriors 72.  He will now face SBG Manchester’s Inman, who is largely considered one of the toughest fights in the division.

“He’s a good fighter all round, but there are not a lot of specifics I’ve had to work on to be honest.” He added: “I just want to beat him, I’m not thinking about the future, every fights a big fight, just one step at a time… I’ve always wanted to fight Matt.”

The winner of this fight will arguably put themselves in a good position at the top of the welterweight ladder for a future title shot against Nicolas Dalby. However the Welshman stated: “Whoever he is, I don’t really care about him.”

Long also emphasised how much the sport of MMA means to him: “Fighting has given me the life I have now, I don’t want a different life, I love my life, the more I fight the happier I get.”

You can listen the entire interview right here, Long talks more about fight with Inman, moving up to welterweight, his year away from the cage and potential Lew Long merchandise.

Audio: Matt Inman ready for 'strong opponent' Lew Long at Cage Warriors 73 in Newcastle, November 1

by Andreas Georgiou - @AGeorgiouMMA

In an exclusive pre-fight interview with Kingdom MMA, Matt Inman (13-6) talks about his ‘strong’ and ‘dangerous’ ground game ahead of his upcoming test against Lewis Long (8-3) at Cage Warriors 73 at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, November 1st.

Inman, the SBG Manchester fighter said: “Lew Long is a good fight, a good strong opponent, he’s very experienced in Cage Warriors. He’s coming off a good win against Steve Dinsdale in Wales.
“He’s got a bit of momentum behind him and he’s definitely a good strong dangerous opponent.”

the Manchester based fighter has six TKO/KOs to his name, but Long has never been finished by strikes: “My striking is dangerous because I can mix things up, I can use my knees and elbows well as well.”

He is coming off a loss to Mauro Chimento Jr. at Cage Warriors 68, which ‘definitely’ derailed any title hopes. However Inman believed it was simply just a ‘bad night’ on his behalf.

“I wasn't myself, I've kinda done a lot of reflection on it and thought back. I trained hard, I always do, I was fit and ready there’s no doubt, but my last few fights I got into the mind-set just go harder and that’s all I was doing, I wasn't kinda thinking.

“Like everyone was saying it was a body shot, that wasn't the shot that did the damage in that fight I don’t think, I actually I caught a shot on the top of my head.” Inman added “I couldn't really remember anything until watching the video back.  The body shot kinda finished the game off, it was just a bad night I think.”

You can listen to the interview right here, as Inman talks about his upcoming fight with Lew Long, the evolution of UKMMA, SBG Manchester, his time away from the cage, and more.

Cung Le's suspension for elevated levels of HGH is rescinded by UFC

By Alex Dillon @ADillon_

Cung Le's one year suspension which he received after testing positive for elevated levels of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) in a post fight drug test after a brutal fourth round TKO loss to Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 48 has been rescinded, UFC officials announced on Tuesday.

The UFC issued the following statement on the decision:

"At UFC Fight Night Macao on August 23rd, UFC contracted with an independent drug testing laboratory in Hong Kong to perform urinalysis testing on all fighters on the card.  Additionally, UFC requested the laboratory to test blood samples from 4 fighters for human growth hormone (HGH), erythropoietin (EPO) and testosterone.

One of the athletes who had his blood tested was Cung Le.  The laboratory results from Le’s blood test were sent to the UFC and showed that his blood had a total HGH level outside the reference range.  Based on such results, UFC officials determined that Le had violated his promotional agreement and the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy.  Consequently, UFC decided that Le should be suspended from unarmed combat competition for 12 months.

Following the announcement of Le’s suspension, UFC officials have been provided with medical advice regarding the elevated total HGH present in Le’s system.  In accordance with such medical advice, UFC has determined that Le’s elevated total HGH by itself does not prove that he took performance-enhancing drugs before the August 23rd bout.  As a result, UFC has informed Le that his suspension is rescinded.

Le had requested an appeal of his suspension, and was entitled to arbitrate the drug test results and suspension.  However, based on the lack of conclusive laboratory results, UFC officials deemed it appropriate to immediately rescind the suspension without the need for further proceedings.

The UFC organization has always been a leader when it comes to testing for performance-enhancing drugs in combat sports.  All UFC athletes know they are subject to drug testing by an applicable state athletic commission, an international governing federation, or by an independent laboratory contracted by the UFC when no regulatory body is overseeing the event.  In those cases where regulatory oversight is unavailable, UFC voluntarily chooses to adhere to the highest level of athlete health and safety protocols similar to if the event were being held in the state of Nevada."

Stapleton had the following to say on signing with BAMMA and his upcoming bout with Petley:

"Jeremy is an extremely skilled, athletic guy who has shown he is skilled in every aspect of Mixed Martial Arts. I like the fact that he comes out to fight and I think it will make for fight of the night for sure!
I don't really concentrate on opponents though so I’m gonna be looking to stop this guy just like any other!! The fact that the Fight is in Manchester is gonna make for a tough night for him, the crowd that myself and the other local guys like Kane bring has got to be the best crowd in UKMMA right now so it’s gonna be a big night!"

And on his decision to sign with BAMMA:

FCC 11 Review and results: Loughnane, Mousah and Reece conquer

By Alex Dillon @ADillon_

Full Contact Contender returned with its 11th show in emphatic fashion on Saturday night at the Bolton Macron Stadium. The fight card, full of pros and amateurs delivered throughout the whole night making FCC 11 the best show to date.

In the main event of the evening, Brendan Loughnane successfully defended his FCC lightweight title against Ali Maclean in impressive fashion. Using leg kicks and quality footwork, Loughnane kept Maclean at bay whilst landing shots when he wanted. In the 2nd round, the champion teed off on Maclean landing some heavy punches which resulted in the referee jumping in and stopping it. Loughnane will now move on to a new promotion which could be announced Monday and a drop down to 145lbs is also on the cards.

In the co-main, fan favourite Kane ‘The Danger’ Mousah took on Hayden Critchfield. It was excellent from from Mousah as he got the victory in the 1st round via rear naked choke. Great performance for the lightweight prospect who now, goes on to face Marc Diakese at BAMMA 17 Dec 6, Manchester.

Martin Stapleton featured on FCC for the second time in a row as his clinical grappling and control helped him on his way to a second round TKO stoppage.

Also, Dec Williams of Manchester Predators scored an excellent knockout of a dangerous opponent.

In most brutal fashion, Danny Missin destroyed prospect Aaron Aby. Relentless elbows were the key for Missin who hammered down numerous shots as Aby went in for a takedown. After that, Aby was on wobbly legs and bleeding badly before he slipped and the referee stopped the fight. Massive win for Missin who was on a 3 fight losing streak going into the bout.

Harry Marple had a successful pro debut as he dispatched his opponent via rear naked choke in the first round.

Ashley Reece vs Ant O’Connor topped the amateur title fight bill and rightly so. The first two rounds were Ant O’Connor’s as he really imposed his wrestling game on a notoriously slow starting Ashley Reece. The defending champion Reece would somehow find a way back into the fight which in turn saw him flip the tables and finish the fight via rear naked choke in the 4th round. Super impressive heart from Reece who is surely destined for the pro ranks in his next outing.

Robbie Fallon became the new FCC amateur bantamweight title by submitting Ben Dearden via rear naked choke in the 1st round.

Michael Younis also claimed gold by knocking out Adam Wright in just 13 seconds to become the new FCC amateur light heavy weight champion.

Ste Henshall off FCPC added to his rage in the cage amateur middleweight title by capturing the FCC equivalent. He got the standing guillotine finish over Dan Stoddard in the first round.

Callum Gahgan’s awesome submission of Jonno Mears is also worthy of a mention. Dubbed the best grappler in the gym by HAMMA coach Sean Martin, Gahgan lived up to that very statement by arm baring his opponent in the first round.

Here are Kingdom MMA’s fight night awards:

Fight of the night: Ashley Reece vs Ant O’Connor
Knockout of the night: Michael Younis
Submission of the night: Callum Gahgan
Performance of the night: Brendan Loughnane
