Expected to debut in May of 2016, the upcoming film is said to be the third and final of the newest X-Men trilogy.

Starting with X-Men: First Class, followed by X-Men: Days of Future Past, the films have been packed with veteran stars that have carried them along the entire way.

Smit-McPhee joins Olivia Munn and Sophie Turner as some of the newest members to join a leading cast of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Hoult, and many other talented actors.

Although new to the X-Men team, this will not be the young Australian's first appearance with Fassbender.

The two recently co-starred in the film Slow West, in which Smit-McPhee played a young Scottish boy who journeyed across the the American frontier searching for the girl that he loves.

With the release of Slow West earlier this month, Smit-McPhee's attention is now turned to his superhuman role. Which will be based in the 80s according to Singer's latest Instagram post (which is less likely to be immediately deleted),depicting the setting and time zone for their first day of shooting.
