Helen Mirren is effortlessly elegant in sheer black skirt as she walks the red carpet at New York charity gala

She rarely looks anything less than immaculate on the red carpet and on Monday night, Helen Mirren pulled off another winning look.

The 69-year-old actress attended the 2015 Stuttering Association for the Young Gala at Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York.

Pairing a high-waisted semi sheer skirt with a fitted black top, Helen looked super chic as she lent her support to the fundraiser alongside the likes of Sam Rockwell.

Helen chose a statement skirt for the charity event, with the ankle length pleated number featuring a sheer overlay.

She paired the high waisted number with a simple long-sleeved top which was tucked in to make the most of her trim figure.

The actress finished off her outfit with a pair of black satin heels and some some pretty gold and pearl drop earrings.

Helen was spotted warmly greeting actor Sam Rockwell, who was also at the event, looking smart in a grey suit.

Broadway star Kelli O'Hara was also among the guests, with the gala honouring the stage star for her long-time support of SAY, a non-profit organisation dedicated to giving young people who suffer from stuttering a voice.

Helen is set for a busy week, with the 2015 Tony nominations due to be announced on Tuesday.

The actress is a strong contender for a Best actress nomination, thanks to her lead in the Broadway transfer of her critically acclaimed play The Audience.

Helen plays Queen Elizabeth in the Peter Morgan play - a role she previously played in her Oscar winning film The Queen.

The actress has already scooped an Olivier for her performance in The Audience when it played in London's West End back in 2013, but a win at the 69th Annual Tony Awards would be her first, following two previous nominations in 1995 and 2002.
