'Remembering L'Wren on her birthday': Former boyfriend Mick Jagger posts touching tribute to the late designer on what would have been her 51st

Mick Jagger has paid tribute to his late girlfriend L'Wren Scott on Tuesday - a day that would have been her 51st birthday.

The fashion designer, who committed suicide last March, is captured in a timeless black and white photograph, which rocker Mick posted alongside the words, 'Remembering L'Wren on her birthday'.

Jagger, 71, took to Twitter to say that he was thinking of the late starlet, who he spent 13 years with, as he took off to North America for a new Rolling Stones tour, almost one year after her passing.

Jagger is currently on the road with the Zip Tour as his four-piece band return with a 15-city stadium tour.

Mick returned to Twitter in February after taking a three-month social media break as the anniversary of his late girlfriend's death rolled around and he stuck by family to celebrate his first Christmas without her in over a decade.

The rocker had paused to reflect on the tragic suicide of the fashion designer in late 2014 but found that getting back on the road was the only way that he could cope.

An autopsy confirmed Miss Scott's death was suicide after she was found in her luxury Manhattan apartment on March 17, 2014, just one month before she was due to turn 50.

Jagger was said to have developed an acute traumatic stress disorder after losing his long-time partner and was forced to cancel $13million worth of Rolling Stones shows in the wake of her death.

The 71-year-old Rolling Stones singer admitted last month that spending time with his band-mates had a healing effect on the rocker after learning of L’Wren’s death while on tour in March.

‘It was a very difficult time for me, obviously. And for all my family as well,’ he told the BBC as he prepared for his new tour.

‘But I think, it's very hard but I think getting back on tour in Europe helped me a lot. You concentrate on your work, and I had a great time touring.'

The Start Me Up singer was overseas preparing for a seven-concert stretch in Australia and New Zealand when he heard of the news and had to call of the rest of the shows.

This will be only the third most poignant day since her passing last March, after Mick gave radio silence one year on from her death.

Luckily, the Sir Mick’s ex-wife, Texan supermodel Jerry Hall, kept the performer distracted over the festive period.

The 58-year-old opened up about her relationship with her famous ex, saying that they had remained close and that she wanted to be there for him during the turbulent time.

Rocker Jagger cooked Christmas dinner for his ex after battling a 'rough time' in which he would have otherwise been thinking of his famous other half.

He was put in charge of cooking the turkey and sorting out presents for the former model and the children, which Jerry believed would be good for keeping him busy over.

Jerry – who was married to the Rolling Stones frontman for nine years – explained to ITV's Lorraine late last year: 'We're very friendly.'

'I think it's quite good for him. He's just coming off a tour. He's had a rough time. It'll be good for him to be busy with the kids and doing all that.'

Speaking about her own gift from the star, she added: 'He's getting me a new fridge freezer ... I hope. I want an ice maker. Hopefully he hears this. I've already hinted a lot.'
