Is this the poshest party ever? Princess Diana's stepmother, Cara Delevingne's father and Made In Chelsea stars gather to celebrate Tatler magazine at the Ritz

  • Tatler magazine boasts the richest readership of any magazine in the land
  • Hosted star-studded party at The Ritz on Tuesday night
  • Attended by society folk, Made In Chelsea cast members and Lords

It's the magazine that was established in 1709 to cover high-society balls, shooting parties, fashion and gossip - and now boasts the richest readership of any magazine in the land.

So, it's hardly surprising that when Tatler magazine holds a party, there's going to be more than a few posh totty in attendance.

On Tuesday night, the glossy magazine well-known for its coverage of the world's poshest folk, oligarchs and most coveted handbags, threw a soiree in The Ritz (where else?).

Leading the glamour at the Tatler Best of British party in association with Jaeger was Lady Kitty Spencer. With her perfectly tousled blonde hair, demure smile and outgoing personality, Kitty bears more than a passing resemblance to her late aunt, Princess Diana.

Kitty, the 24-year-old who boasts a lineage dating from pre-Tudor times and a family fortune of more than £100million, was named the most eligible girl in Britain by Tatler magazine in 2007.

Kitty grew up away from the media spotlight in South Africa with her mother. She also attended William and Kate's wedding in 2011 but her parents have deliberately tried to keep her out of the media spotlight.

Rarely seen out on the party scene, Kitty was a straight-A student at Reddam House, a private school for South Africa's elite.

She then went on to study psychology, politics and English literature at the University of Cape Town and was selected from a roll call of 800 students to be awarded the gold medal prize for psychology - the subject that is her passion.

Viscountess Emma Weymouth - who became Britain’s first black marchioness - also looked sensational at the party.

Viscountess Emma gained her title in June last year, when as plain Emma, the daughter of a Nigerian oil tycoon, and an aspiring TV chef and food-blogger, she married Ceawlin Thynn, 40, whom she has known since she was four years old.

Viscountess Emma has previously spoken of racism in the British aristocratic circles in which she now mingles, telling Tatler magazine: ‘There has been some snobbishness, particularly among the much older generation.

‘There’s class and then there’s the racial thing.’

Also in attendance was 85-year-old Raine Spencer, who married Princess Diana’s father, Lord Spencer.

Raine, the Countess of Dartmouth, as she then was, met the lonely Johnnie Spencer on an architectural houses committee.

Raine is well-known for being permanently coiffed, immaculately made-up and perennially chipper.

Raine rebelled by becoming politically active at 23, when she joined Westminster Council as a Conservative councillor where she was known for her enormous bouffant hair, pearls, scarves and grand tones.

Fashion blogger Alice Naylor-Leyland looked chic in a teal Burberry coat at the party.

Alice is married to husband, Tom, son of wealthy landowner, Sir Philip Naylor-Leyland. He is the grandson of the late Lord Lambton (of Norma Levy call-girl fame) and owns the 17th-century Talbot hotel in Malton, North Yorkshire near their rented farmhouse home.

Boris's sister Rachel Johnson was also at the party, as was Lady Violet Manners, 21, who lives with her sisters in their £2.6 million house in Fulham.

The young lady's neighbours recently claimed that being next to their London home is like 'living next door to a nightclub'.

Lady Victoria's father, the Duke of Rutland, lives at the Grade I listed Belvoir Castle in Grantham, Leicestershire and is worth an estimated £125 million.

Other familiar faces included Jasmine Guinness, designer and fashion model, who is also an heiress to the Guinness brewing fortune.

Although society girl and model Cara Delevingne wasn't in attendance, her father Charles made an appearance.

Charles, whose grandfather was the politician Hamar Greenwood, 1st Viscount Greenwood, and his late aunt - Doris Delevingne - a society girl close to Winston Churchill, has long moved in high society circles.

A property tycoon, Charles sold the family’s Grade II-listed Belgravia house for £10.5 million during the worst of the credit crunch.

And, of course, there was one cast member of Made In Chelsea at the party.

The producers of the TV show pride themselves on featuring some of the poshest young ladies and gentleman in London.

But even by their standards, Mark-Francis Vandelli is well-to-do - the privately educated son of a multimillionaire industrialist and model wouldn't have to work a day in his life if he chose not to.
