Authorities say a 6-year-old suburban Detroit girl was severely bitten in an attack by her family's pit bull.
The Oakland County sheriff's department says the child was bitten on the face and thigh on Saturday night in Rochester Hills. She was taken to a hospital for treatment after being mauled.
The department described the dog as a "rescue animal" that had been adopted by the family.
The department reports the girl was conscious and breathing after being bitten, but had heavy bleeding. Animal control removed the dog from the home.
A message seeking updated information on her condition was sent Monday morning to a sheriff's department spokesman.
