Chip off the old block! Michael J Fox and his son Sam look nearly identical as they join a host of celebrities at NHL cup playoffs

It was an important game for the home team.

And ice hockey fan Michael J. Fox made sure he and his lookalike son Sam had plum seats to see the New York Rangers take on the Washington Capitals in the Stanley Cup playoffs at Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday night.

The 53-year-old, who has been battling Parkinson's Disease since 1991, cheered enthusiastically along with Sam, 25.

The young actor bears an uncanny resemblance to his dad, with his wide smile, dark, floppy hair and prescription glasses.

Both wore dark jackets for the event with The Good Wife star teaming his with a plaid shirt while Sam oped for stripes.

The Good Wife star recently revealed that he will no longer star in his own series after headlining The Michael J Fox Show from 2013 to 2014, according to Closer Weekly.

'It just beat the hell out of me,' the actor said while attending the Garden Of Laughs comedy benefit in NYC in late March. 'It was too much work.' 

The father and son duo found themselves sitting next to another father and son pair, Donald Trump, 68, and Donald Trump Jr., 37, who is executive VP at his father's Trump Organisation.

It looked like they had come straight from the office as they wore smart dark suits, crisp white shirts and ties.

Ex-pro tennis champ-turned-TV commentator John McEnroe, 56, sat on the other side of the millionaire in full Rangers regalia and a smiling Donald leaned over to chat. 

Also at the crunch game was Brit Jonny Lee Miller, 42, who plays Sherlock Holmes in Elementary, a modern take on the famous fictional detective set in New York City.

He punched the air the air when the Rangers powered the puck into the net to win 2-1.

But it was actor Ansel Elgort, 21, who looked the most excited. He leaped out of his seat and hugged a blonde as they dance around in front of Jonny.

Earlier, The Fault In Our Eyes star actually put his hands together as if in prayer for the Rangers.

Canadian actor Alan Thicke, 67, and his Bolivian producer actress wife Tanya Callau, 40,plus Inside The Actor's Studio host James Lipton, 88, and wife Kedakai Turner were also in the stands. 

The Rangers needed all the celebrity support. Had the team lost, they would have been knocked out of the cup. But the win keeps them in contention with the seven-game series now standing at Capitals 3, Rangers 2.
